After staring the series with introducing the mechanical sub team. We are moving on to talk about the Electrical Team!
If you are a student of the Renewable Energy Engineering program, Nanotechnology, or CIE, and have sufficient knowledge to work in the electrical team, you are more than welcome to apply!
The Electrical Team plays a central role in ensuring that the wind turbine delivers efficient and stable power. The electrical system passes through three main stages:
1️⃣ Generator – Choosing a suitable generator is the first step. The team is responsible for evaluating efficiency, performance, and compatibility with the turbine’s operating conditions.
2️⃣ Rectifier – Since the generator produces AC power, the rectifier converts it into DC power, providing a stable output and reducing energy losses.
3️⃣ Buck/Boost Converter – Finally, the DC output is regulated using a buck/boost converter, which adapts the voltage to the required level and keeps the system reliable under varying wind speeds.
To perform these tasks, Electrical Team members need strong knowledge of power electronics, along with skills in circuit design, PCB manufacturing, thermal management, and system testing. The results of their work are also shared with other sub-teams to optimize the turbine as a whole.

We’re kicking off a new series to introduce you to all the teams working in Eurus ZC this season, and we’ll start with the Mechanical Team! 💪🏻
✨ If you’re studying Aerospace Engineering or Renewable Energy Engineering, this team is made for you! It’s your chance to put theory into practice through a real-world project and gain hands-on experience you’ll never forget. 🫵🏻
Think of this team as the “muscles” of the turbine… without them, the turbine won’t spin, stop, or even stay in place!
Here’s what they’re responsible for:
🔹 1- Pitching System
Once the blades are manufactured and installed, they need to always stay aligned with the wind.
That’s where the Pitching System comes in, allowing the blades to rotate around their axis at very precise angles (Angle of Attack) to maximize power generation.
🔹 2- Generator Stand & Structural Design
After selecting the right generator and determining its weight, the Mechanical Team designs a custom stand to support it using SolidWorks, followed by stress analysis to test its strength.
But that’s not all! The team is also responsible for designing key components like the Yaw System, which ensures the turbine is always facing the wind.
🔹 3- Brake System
It might not be visible from the outside, but it’s crucial for the turbine’s survival 😅.
The Brake System stops the turbine when wind speeds exceed safe limits, protecting it from damage or failure.
🔹 4- Nacelle Design
After integrating all mechanical and electrical components, the team designs the Nacelle (the turbine’s outer casing) in SolidWorks and tests it with ANSYS.
The Nacelle isn’t just a cover; it houses the Tail, which keeps the turbine aligned with the wind, enhancing its overall efficiency.
