Discover the Art of Ceramic Jewelry: A Two-Day Workshop

Workshop Description:
Join us for an immersive two-day workshop where you'll learn the art of creating unique ceramic jewelry! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this hands-on class offers a perfect opportunity to explore your creativity and craft one-of-a-kind pieces that are unique to you.

What to Expect:
- Day 1: Introduction to ceramic techniques, designing your pieces, and the first steps of shaping and molding your jewelry as well as imagining the fitting as a jewelry piece.

- Day 2: Receiving the fired and glazed pieces, making and adding the jewelry findings to finalize your creations.

Farida ElBakry is an Egyptian jewelry designer with over 9 years of experience, specializing in unique, handcrafted pieces. Her work combines metalworking, wax carving, and natural elements from the sea. Based in Downtown Cairo, Farida is known for her intricate, emotionally resonant designs including bespoke wedding rings that reflect each couple’s journey.

Farida likes to share her expertise through workshops that promote the use of unconventional materials, with the belief that “everything can become adornment if we allow it to.”

All materials are provided on site, and you'll leave with your own hand-made pieces

Furniture Design for Architects
Course description: This comprehensive course delves into the intricacies of designing functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture. Participants will start by exploring the evolution of furniture design through history, gaining an understanding of how styles and techniques have developed over time. They will learn the principles of ergonomics and how to apply them to create pieces that are both comfortable and functional.

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of materials and their properties, along with various joinery techniques. The course emphasizes designing specifically for wood, teaching participants how to select the right materials and design effectively for them. Sustainability in furniture design is a key topic, ensuring that students understand the importance of eco-friendly practices in their creations.
Additionally, the course covers the creation of detailed technical drawings, essential for the accurate production of furniture pieces. The culmination of the course is a field visit to the Pinocchio furniture showroom in New Cairo, providing students with practical insights and real-world exposure to contemporary furniture design.

Course Tutor: Amr Orensa, a key figure in Egypt’s design and furniture industry, is the Design Manager at Pinocchio and founder of Designdustry. He holds significant roles in several industry councils and universities and co-founded Cairo Designathon and DeForum.
Amr serves as the Chairman Deputy of the Chamber of Woodworking and Furniture Industry, he is also a Board Member at the Egyptian Furniture Export Council and a Board Member of the Art and Design Faculty Council at both New Giza University, the British University in Egypt and King Salman University.

Total hrs: 18 hrs total, 6 Meetings x 6 Weeks (including 1 excursion)

Understand Lighting Design In spaces.
Course Description: Lighting design entails considering aspects such as users, the type of space, and the colours and materials used in the space. They all play a crucial role in determining the appropriate lights to use. Lighting design helps create various scenes so that a particular space can adapt to multiple needs throughout the day or over time. In this course, participants will explore and learn about lighting design for interior spaces.

Course Tutor: Nedal Badr is a renowned designer specializing in architecture, interior design, lighting, product design, and Arabic calligraphy. With education from AAST (Egypt) and the Dessau Institute (Germany), he has worked in six countries. He founded Nedal Zone, is an academic in Cairo, and has won ‘Design + Industry’ awards. His work has been featured at Milan and Paris Design Weeks, and he gave his first TEDx talk in 2022.

Your child’s new toy is designed by you.

Workshop Description :
In this co-design workshop parents and their children will join forces to create something wonderful. Together, they'll invent a story and bring its characters to life through imaginative design. In the second part of the workshop, they'll craft glove puppets inspired by those characters. Through collaborative storytelling and puppet-making, parents and children strengthen their bond and create lasting memories together while having the opportunity to escape everyday stressors and engage in a therapeutic, creative activity that promotes emotional well-being.

Workshop Tutor :
Dina Bahgat is an Egyptian researcher and industrial product designer with a strong background in education, design thinking, and social innovation. Over the past six years, she have worked in academic education, and since 2015, she has been involved in creating products and working on various product development projects, in different fields of the industry, including healthcare, childern Ergnomic, Household appliances and Biomimicry.

In this 1- day workshop you will learn about:
Co-designing and the collaborative designing approach.
Character designing elements.
Toy making and active learning and, participation through enjoyment and play.

This workshop is designed for parents and their children, as well as individuals.

Art impacts spaces!
In this workshop we explore the profound impact art has on both the
social and spatial dynamics of interiors. This workshop delves into the
nuances of selecting art that not only complements a space aesthetically
but also enriches the personal experience of it’s inhabitants. Inspecting
the role of the designer as an art selector and potential mediator between
his/her clients and the artist.
Participants will engage in a collaborative dialogue with Nehal and Karim
discussing how art can transform personal and social spaces by:
Reflecting and influencing the mood and character of a space.
Encouraging social interaction and conversation.
Personalising environments to reflect individual identity.
Bridging between the art and design world
Through this workshop, you will gain insights into art selection,
understand the social, and emotional effects of art pieces on personal
and social spaces, and learn practical tips for integrating art seamlessly
into various interior settings.

This workshop is open to everyone, whether you're a homeowner,
designer, or art enthusiast, this discussion will provide valuable
perspectives on curating art collections that resonate with and elevate
your spaces.

Learn paper making with Wessam Wafik!

This workshop is designed to discover and get identified with the craft of paper making and recycling, through learning a brief about paper making history, tools and methodologies. Learning about the process through a personal hands-on making experience; participants will work on making their own paper and fostering individual personal connection with their own work.

Wessam Wafik is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Cairo, Egypt.
Graduated from Faculty of Arts & Design.
Wessam mostly works and experiments with printmaking, illustration,
paper-making & alternative photographic techniques, in addition to
the creation and merging of different types of artforms with the goal of
developing an authentic mixture of 'Process and Product'.

In this one day workshop, you’ll learn about:
Principles of paper making.
A brief history of the technical process and methods
How to make and personalise your own paper
This workshop is designed for anyone and everyone, welcoming all ages and different backgrounds.
