From Alamein to Barcelona - Taking Logistics Beyond Borders 🇪🇸🌍⚓
We are proud to celebrate our Term 7 student, Ahmed Ashraf, for completing the International Summer School “Global Trade Immersion: Port Operations & International Trade Simulation” in Barcelona, Spain, held from 31 August to 11 September 2026.
Organized by the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport in collaboration with the Port of Barcelona and leading global industry partners, including APM Terminals, Hutchison Ports BEST, and Grimaldi Lines, the intensive 42-hour program offered Ahmed an exceptional opportunity to experience international trade and maritime logistics beyond the classroom. 🇪🇸🚢
Throughout the program, Ahmed explored:
⚓ Port Operations in Action – Field visits across container, Ro-Ro, Ro-Pax, and railway terminals, with direct insights into vessel and terminal operations.
💻 Port Virtual Lab Simulation – Hands-on, team-based simulation of import and export operations, electronic documentation, ERP systems, and cost management.
🌊 Maritime & Sustainability Practices – Practical exposure to vessel and cargo management, ISPS security, bunkering, hinterland connections, and CO₂ emission calculations.
📦 International Trade Operations – Applying Incoterms, tariff classification, packing lists, and international logistics processes in realistic scenarios.
✨ More than a summer school, this was an opportunity to experience global logistics from the inside — connecting academic knowledge with international industry practices, real-world simulations, and firsthand port experience.
