“I am 18 and am passionate about social justice and bringing light to people who don’t get the opportunity to be great, this includes me! By being an inspiration to others I hope to be the light for myself.” Toni has recently gained some work experience volunteering with Kamitan Arts for the K & C Poetry Fringe 🪶 and was also one of the young people chosen on our POETRY TRAIL 2026 🐾 after applying for our Poetry Open-call. Her poem was displayed at the Chelsea Theatre

Preceeding the Poetry Trail, here you see her reciting her poem on the theme of PEACE at the Youth Action Alliance ‘One Heart Festival’ at our Kamitan Arts stall with fellow inter-generational peers. We first came across this young talented poet at SPID Theatre Company production where she partook in workshops with our old skool UK poet pioneer and brother-friend of ours El Crisis Toni stunned us with her humble confidence, artistic excellence and eloquence! 👏

A Tribute to the late Ghanaian-British Professor Jason Arday, the youngest Black Professor at Cambridge University! 1985-2026 May he Rest in Divine Peace and Power 🙏🏼🕊️☥✨🙏🏽

A beautifully penned poem and portrait of him 🎨 by ZITA HOLBOURNE, POET, ARTIST FRSA - our Kensington and Chelsea Poetry Fringe Advisory Board member 🪶

The poem is called ‘We Remember Professor Jason Arday’, and the artwork is called ‘Rest in Freedom Professor Jason Arday’ first published on the 18th August at Writing Our Legacy

Evidence of institutional racism, a form of mental and emotional slavery that still exists today; the consequences are lethally horrendous!

Kamitan Arts has always intertwined Poetry with Art, Live Music and Dance, recognising how the various disciplines complement one another. You may have seen this through our projects around 2018/19, including 'Lyrikal Art' and 'Poetic Art', where each artistic discipline influences or acts as a stimulus for another.
We continued this approach during Covid through our Arts Council England funded online series VAP: Virtual Acoustic Poetry, and later through Poetry on the Steps, where local adult and young artists responded to poetry with their sketch pads and paintbrushes. Most recently, our production ‘Nay of the Nile: Poetry in Ritual Motion’ at Tate Britain in 2025 brought Indigenous movement, traditional music, spoken word and art into dialogue with one another.

This was also an ambition we expressed early in 2022/23, during our time as grassroots Poetry Partners with KCAW, introducing the concept of poetry and movement or dance responding to artwork, and vice versa, alongside live music.

We are thrilled to say that in 2026, this vision is developing further, with artists now being commissioned to respond to our poetry theme of PEACE through the Kensington & Chelsea Poetry Fringe 🪶 and POETRY TRAIL 2026 🐾

The artwork by Esther here can be seen at the Kensington Central Library until September!!!

One of the art pieces is a simultaneous response to the live recitation at the fundraiser, where you also hear the poetical finesse of Wendy Young !

Not only is our dear Debbie Golt FRSA a longstanding supporter and associate of , her connection with the borough within the arts and culture scene spreads across more than four decades! Since her teens she was an RBKC resident, arts manager, campaigner, former Arts Officer for the Borough, events and festival producer (WOMATT), programmer (Portobello Arts Festival) and coordinator (Earls Court Festival), award-winning radio broadcaster, DJ, Global Arts consultant, community member, ‘Poetry 4 Grenfell’ book contributor, arts activist and now a vital part of our ‘Kensington and Chelsea Poetry Fringe’ 🪶 Advisory Board and occasional poetic participant!

We first came across this young and talented poetess at the Never Such Innocence awards and ‘How Can We Prevent Future Wars’ exhibition last year at Kensington Central Library, where our Poetry Trail 2025 was displaying poems on the theme of EQUITY. Her heart-felt verse did not fail to amaze us on page and stage!

“I want to use my voice to help people understand that no everybody has the same opportunities and we should do everything we can to help each other, especially today, when things are so difficult. I became interested in Kamitan Arts after meeting Princess Emmanuelle at a ‘Never Such Innocence’ winners' event in Kensington Library last year, where I was asked to read my speech about 'How to End Future Wars'. I believe peace is the only cause worth fighting for. I am 12.”

“FOREVER BLESSED” Ft. EmpresS *1 from the 'P4G' Poetry 4 Grenfell family at the Grenfell 9 Yr Anniversary 💚with a spontaneous visit from a young habiba (darling in Arabic) from the North Kensington community who felt touched by our ‘Word, Sound, Power’ recitation and felt to join in!

10-yr-old Theo Ellison developed a poem on the theme of PEACE with at the One Heart Festival 💚 Youth Action Alliance We are so very proud of this young man that's following in his mum’s footsteps, who used to also partake in Kamitan Arts’ workshops in North Kensington about two decades ago and was commissioned for the Poetry Fringe this year!

“I’m just a boy who likes to write. My mum was part of a few projects linked to Kamitan Arts many years ago, and I thought to have a go expressing myself in a new way. I took part in a short poetry workshop with Kamitan Arts at the One Heart Festival last month where I was able to express myself on page and on the mic. It makes me feel happy when everyone gets along with each other and I feel if everyone could be more peaceful alone or with others then we can all live more peaceful lives. I am 10 years old and live in North Kensington.”

“I got involved with Kamitan Arts during lockdown with the ‘VAP jams and it was a lifesaver! Loved it! They then gave me the opportunity to create poems on a theme for poetry trails, as the official grassroots poetry partners with KCAW they selected my poetry for four consecutive years for the poetry trail and then for its continuation last year through the inaugural K & C Poetry Fringe. Kamitan Arts also have me the opportunity to have my poem longlisted for the 'Trees' themed festival and I performed and volunteered with them at The Chelsea Theatre, Bush Theatre and at Opera Holland Park for ‘Poetry on the Steps’.”

Wendy has also supported the K & C Poetry Fringe by plugging it on her "FreeOclock Show" on K2K Radio Metroland Cultures 📻
