Ever wondered what Day 1 of a PADI IDC actually looks like? Here’s your inside look. 👀

The skill circuit is where it starts. 24 skills, demonstration quality, back to back. These aren’t new to you, you covered them in your Divemaster course. But now you need to perform them at a standard good enough to teach.

Most candidates are pretty solid. But there’s almost always a little tweaking needed, and that’s exactly what we’re here for.

We run the circuit at Reef 2000, one of Dahab’s best confined water sites. Candidates are lined up facing up the slope to make ex*****on easier, and positioned close enough together that Dom can watch multiple candidates performing skills at the same time. It’s more efficient, and yes, he really can see everything. 👀

Not feeling 100% locked in on all 24 skills? Arrive a few days early. Dom will run a prep session covering your demo quality skills and dive theory so you walk in fully ready, not just almost ready.
Your IDC is the bridge between being a diver and becoming an instructor. Make sure you’re prepared for it. 🎓

💾 Save this if your IDC is on the horizon and share it with someone who’s planning theirs. 👇 Got questions about what to expect from the IDC? Drop them below.

Good instructors follow the course. Great instructors understand it. 🎓🤿 Mask removal is one of the most common sticking points in the PADI Open Water Course, and how you handle it says everything about the kind of instructor you are.

The course is student-oriented, not time-oriented. If your student isn’t ready, the answer is never “do it again and hope for the best.” It’s finding a smarter way in, whether that’s a fun dive to reset their confidence, or snorkel practice to ease them into the sensation first.

This is the difference we focus on at IDC Dive. Not just getting candidates through their IDC, but building instructors who actually know how to teach.

You’ve either seen it, done it, or tried to fix it - flapping during a dive 🤿 But what many fail to realise is that it’s a simple fix on your in-breath.

Pause slightly on the in-breath, allowing you to rise smoothly. Breathe out as norma. Your not breaking the most important rule of scuba diving, you’re simply using the breath as an aid for buoyancy.

📌 Save this to remember, and share it with a new diver who it could help.

Let’s get into this debate — what is classed as “perfect trim” when diving? You’ve probably heard it before as “complete horizontal positioning”. But if you’re a new diver, or an experienced professional, you’ve also probably heard some complaints that it’s NOT the most comfortable position to learn to dive in, or to dive in as a professional, right?

Here’s Dom explaining his take on the dive trim debate, and what he would argue is best for beginners in terms of trim position. 🤿

What position do you dive most comfortably in? Let us know in the comments.
