✨ Continuing the inspiring conversations that took place on 18 June, the International Day to Combat Hate Speech, Prof. James Gazzard, Provost of The British University in Egypt, shared his reflections in an interview held alongside Interfaith Peer-Engagement for Human Fraternity and Peace.

Prof. Gazzard highlighted the significance of the event’s hybrid nature, which connected participants across Cairo, Rome, and Geneva, creating a unique platform for exchanging ideas and fostering meaningful dialogue across cultures, faiths, and institutions. 🌍

He emphasized that bringing together academics, faith leaders, human rights experts, and young changemakers is essential to transforming dialogue into collective action. Such engagement, he noted, strengthens mutual understanding, promotes respect for diversity, and inspires innovative approaches to addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

As conversations continue beyond the event itself, the spirit of human fraternity remains at the heart of these efforts—affirming that peace is built not only through dialogue, but also through cooperation, empathy, and shared responsibility. 🕊️🤝

**Transcending Dialogue into Joint Action: Interfaith Peer-Engagement for Human Fraternity and Peace**

On 18 June 2026—the International Day to Combat Hate Speech—the Faculty of Law at The British University in Egypt proudly served as the Cairo hub for a landmark international hybrid gathering of young faith actors from across the world. The meeting aimed at addressing the ethical leadership gap by leveraging the spiritual weight of religions for world peace. The global event was jointly convened by the Vatican, Al-Azhar, and the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), connecting physical hubs in Cairo (The British University in Egypt), Rome (Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue), and Geneva (UN Palais des Nations) with online participants worldwide. 🌍🤝

Bringing together young faith actors, academics, human rights experts, and religious leaders, the opening plenary was moderated by Prof. Ibrahim Salama (Dean of Law, The British University in Egypt). It featured powerful personal pledges from global figures including Prof. James Gazzard (Provost, The British University in Egypt), H.E. Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad (Vatican), Dr. Nazila Ghanea (UN Special Rapporteur), Dr. Reham Salamah (Al Azhar Observatory), H.E. Archbishop Ettore Balestrero (Apostolic Nuncio), alongside representatives from Wilton Park, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Globethics, and the Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies.

Through interactive working groups, participants explored the role of faith actors in sustaining dialogue during conflict, utilizing social media to combat hate speech and AI-generated fake content, and addressing the political misuse of religion to incite violence. 💬📱

The day concluded with a cross-hub plenary building solidarity for all victims of conflict, led by Prof. Ibrahim Salama (The British University in Egypt), Dr. Michael Wiener (UN Faith for Rights), and Dr. Charbel Attallah (Vatican Dicastery). Rooted in the Faith for Rights framework and the Document on Human Fraternity, the Faculty of Law is honored to support this global initiative advancing peace, mutual understanding, and respect for human dignity. 🕊️🌟
