In traditional forms of leadership there is often an initiation ceremony that marks the ascension of a new leader.

Sitting around a fire, chanting, dressing in special garments, giving oaths of loyalty and service, performing special movements or dances… There are certain—essentially tribalistic—ceremonies, rituals, symbols, and rites of passage when it comes to leadership that HR and leadership development professionals would do well to look to for insights.

These symbols and ceremonies can cement leadership beliefs or practices within the organisation.

How can we use symbols, rites, and ceremonies to enhance leadership practice within our organisation?

Mirqah co-CEO Dr. Karim Abobakr will explore the ceremonious facet of leadership using an anthropological lens in his next webinar, “Tribal Leadership: Organisational Rites of Passage”. He will identify ways such elements could be used in the service of leadership development and make recommendations on how best to incorporate rituals in LDPs and leadership practice more broadly.

Karim has a background in psychiatry, and experience with the social sciences, as well as almost two decades’ experience managing or delivering leadership development training. He is an advisory board member with several organisations, and is currently conducting his post-graduate studies in Workplace Mental Health & Wellbeing at the University of Nottingham.
