Dr. Mai Hassan Roushdy, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, The British University in Egypt, represented the faculty of Engineering at The First Scientific Forum in Food Industries and Green Engineering themed โ€œGreen Energy Applications for Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Food Industry,โ€ held under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Loutfi MBE (President and Vice-Chancellor, BUE) and Prof. Mamdouh Moawad (President of the National Research Centre).
Dr. Mai chaired the Second Session, alongside Prof. Siham Feheid and Prof. Mona Samir, covering sustainable food industries, bio-lubricants, green packaging, biogas production, and more.

๐Ÿ’ง Summer Internship Spotlight | Greater Cairo Drinking Water Company ๐Ÿ’ง

As part of the Chemical Engineering Department's Summer Internship Program 2026, our Chemical Engineering students had the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience at ุดุฑูƒุฉ ู…ูŠุงู‡ ุงู„ุดุฑุจ ุจุงู„ู‚ุงู‡ุฑุฉ ุงู„ูƒุจุฑู‰ (Greater Cairo Drinking Water Company), exploring the processes and technologies involved in providing safe and reliable drinking water to communities.

During their internship, our students were introduced to the different stages of water treatment, from raw water intake and preliminary treatment to coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. They also gained exposure to water quality monitoring, laboratory analysis, treatment plant operation, and the importance of maintaining high standards of safety and environmental protection.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ The Role of Chemical Engineers in Water Treatment

Chemical engineers play a key role in the water and wastewater treatment sector. Their knowledge of fluid mechanics, mass transfer, reaction engineering, process control, and environmental engineering enables them to design, operate, optimize, and troubleshoot treatment processes. They contribute to improving water quality, optimizing chemical dosing, reducing energy and resource consumption, and developing more sustainable and efficient treatment solutions.

We sincerely thank the Greater Cairo Drinking Water Company for hosting our students and providing them with this valuable opportunity to connect their academic knowledge with real-world engineering practice. Such experiences help our students develop the technical skills, professional awareness, and confidence needed to become the next generation of Chemical Engineers. ๐ŸŒŸ

We are proud that two graduation projects from Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at The British University in Egypt were among the ๐—ง๐—ผ๐—ฝ ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ winners of CEDARE Environmental Innovation Prize 2026 โ€“ First Edition, organised by CEDARE - Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe in collaboration with the Association of Arab Universities ุงุชุญุงุฏ ุงู„ุฌุงู…ุนุงุช ุงู„ุนุฑุจูŠุฉ.
