In this video Scot Thornbury speaks about the 7 best approaches he likes and what he likes about them. Lots of useful insight for teachers. A few of these are never taught for teachers but still quite useful to adopt. Some takeaways from the session:
1. Teachers should avoid to assume learners know nothing: they have gaps in their knowledge. It is always useful to build on this and fill those gaps with useful linguistic elements.
2. Memory and memrisation is still at the heart of language learning. Learners will not learn a language without memrising vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.
3. Teach students to read- this will aid them in their attempt to be more fluent. Teaching reading is a realistic aim and can take a relatively shorter time than speaking.
