Student Action for Refugees in Cairo

The Humans of STAR project is a platform used to share STAR members' stories and experiences. We invite you to sit for a short interview with one or two Humans of STAR team members where we will ask you questions about yourself, your story and your education. You are free to share whatever you feel comfortable with. After the session we will post an image of you, as well as a snippet of what you have shared with us. This is entirely optional, however we highly encourage you to participate!

The wait is finally over! We are now accepting signup forms for continuing students. If you have joined us before and have passed one of the levels before, then you are eligible to signup for this semester’s classes with us! Unfortunately, we are only going to be offering classes ONLINE through ZOOM to students who once passed a level with STAR. This is mainly because we won’t be able to hold placement tests this semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic for your safety and ours. Also, please make sure that you have access to a viable internet connection throughout the period of the classes, which will be at least 10 weeks.

If you are interested in volunteering with us (online) please make sure to read the description on the form as it will explain what is expected of you.

Teachers who will be shortlisted will be contacted for a zoom interview.

Hello everyone! This is Mennan, STAR’s President 20’21. I’m a senior at AUC majoring in Political Science. For as long as I can remember, all I ever ever wanted to do is make a change. There’s one quote that has always been so driving for me: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” - Mahatma Gandhi. Everything we do at STAR resonates with this quote. And if STAR has given me anything at all, it has given me just that — the gift of social responsibility fulfillment.Through our work at STAR, we’re able to become a part of something. Something that is bigger than you, me, and all of us combined. It’s the ability to give back, not just to our immediate community but to a community that deserves our utmost attention and care. It is only when we lift each other up, that we truly rise. The beauty of STAR is that it embraces people from all different walks of life with only one goal, and that is: together, we will rise again.

Hello hello everyone!
This is Nayera Abouelfarh. I am a senior majoring in Political Science, with a specialization in International Relations and International Law, and minoring in Economics and Global and Public Affairs. I am STAR’s Vice President for this academic year. My job is to ensure that our work environment is safe and efficient for both our volunteers and students. I hope to help as many people as possible from the refugee community through making their learning experience smooth and enjoyable. I would also like to ensure that our volunteers are not only teaching our students but also learning from their experience at STAR.
