السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

We hope that everyone is having a beneficial month of Ramadhān, full of barakah and full of khayr.

It was reported that 'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās رضي الله عنه said: the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) was the most generous of the men; and he was the most generous during the month of Ramadhān. [Bukhāry]

With that, we hope that you will also be generous in aiding us establish our Masjid here in the Gambia, Masjid ul-Muhājirīn, to serve as a pillar in a community of believers who have left their homes for the sake of Allāh, to fulfil their obligation to live in the lands of the Muslims.

We are currently on phase 2 of this tremendous project which is 'to purchase the land' for which we have been quoted at approximately £37k. We currently have raised approximately £6k which means that we only have another £31k to make, which in reality, isn't much if everyone contributes.

In general, this is a tremendous deed - establishing a hub for teaching the Qurān and Sunnah and calling to the way of the Salaf - however, even moreso during the Month of Ramadhān when the deeds are multiplied abundantly!

One thing that I came to realise after learning Arabic is that there are many misunderstood words and phrases, things that we used to believe we were saying/understand correctly when in fact we had misunderstood them... Here is an example of that.

Were you from the majority of those who used to think that Al-Waswās -in this verse - meant the whispers of Shaytān???

Many people don't realise that there is a lot of knowledge around the world. More often than not, if you ask someone where you can go to study things such as Arabic, Qurān, Usūl or other than that they will name a restricted list such as حرسها الله , Egypt, Yemen etc. This is great and these places are tremendous to seek knowledge however there is also an abundance of knowledge that can be found in other regions. Here in the there are a number of people of knowledge who are experts in fields such as Arabic, Qurān, Usūl, Hadīth etc. and since being here I've come to a realisation that if one truly wants knowledge that must go and seek it... It will not always be comfortable and sought in a way of ease rather sometimes it is sought with scraping of the knees and exerting efforts..... We are going to to continue to post more examples of this إن شاء الله تعالى

Asalāmu alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

As some of you perhaps saw, we posted a new campaign on Instagram pertaining to raising money for 5 potential students who have shown great interest in studying with our institute in the Language program.

The students have shown a great desire to study with us but the only thing preventing them is finance. Finances should never prevent anyone from studying. We understand this. There are many students we have aided before, but the reality is that it isn’t possible to assist every student who expresses financial difficulty.

For that reason, we are campaigning to raise £3750 which will cover the costs for these 5 students to complete our whole program.

This includes 60+ weeks of studies;10 levels, 6 weeks per level, and Daily aid, and support for students.

It sounds like a lot to some people but if we calculate it then the amount isn’t really much for that which will be reaped in return by both the one who sponsors as well as the students.

£3750 works out to be only £750 per student……. £750 for 60 weeks of exclusive studies and daily support works out to be approximately £1.70 a day.

£1.70 is less than a cup of coffee! And don’t forget that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, "When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased)." [Muslim].

A common question that we receive from many students is “what is the difference?” between 2 very similar words?

Many of the scholars of the language hold the view that there is no such thing as ترادف (synonyms) in Arabic, ie, no 2 words have exactly the same meaning even if they are very similar.

This video studies the difference between عذاب and عقاب both translating to mean ‘to read’ or ‘to recite’.

A common complaint from some people who have been studying Arabic for some time is that they still struggle to understand some words/expressions in the Quran or other than that.

This video speaks about a topic from the sciences of the Quran known as الغرائب (uncommon words).

Take a look at a few recommended books on this topic that I'm sure you'll find to be beneficial in shaa Allāh

The scholars differ on the intent of “the Qurān” being sent down in Ramadhān, some of the mentioned that it means the whole Qurān was sent down whilst others mentioned that it means some of the Qurān.

It is commonly mentioned amongst many of the Mufassirīn that it means the whole Qurān however if one studies the reality, they will see that this view is problematic and that is because there were verses that were revealed in Ramadhān, and verses that were also revealed in other months.

However they respond to this with the narration of ‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Abbās wherein he said:

“The (whole) Qurān was initially sent down from the Lawh ul-Mahfooth (the preserved tablet), to Bait ul-‘Izza and then from there Jibrīl would take the verses accordingly and bring descend with them to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ at different times.”

So they say that it refers to the initial revelation.

However Shaykh Uthaymīn رحمه الله said that this narration is WEAK and rather the intent is that some of the Qurān was revealed in Ramadhān, i.e. its revelation started in the month of Ramadhān.

A 'gripping discussion' between Abul 'Abbās Zakariyya (COTQ founder and instructor) and Abu Hasana Ismail (graduate from the Islamic University of Madīnah, faculty of Sharee'ah), both sharing their views and experiences about seeking knowledge abroad. Some very interesting points were mentioned, opening up one's insight into life in the lands of the Muslims from a very different, interesting perspective, followed by a Q & A.

The importance of writing down questions!

This is something that can not be stressed enough; how many times does a question come to mind but we don’t ask due to;

1. Being too shy
2. Forgetting the question

I was once advised to ALWAYS write my questions down and alhamdulillāh for this advice. There were times that a question would come to mind at the most random time and perhaps I couldn’t ask it there and then so I would write it down and alhamdulillāh ask at the next convenience.

I had a section in my notebook (at the back), just for random questions, not matter how ‘silly’ it sounded, I would always ask and only years later would I see the benefit.

On an occasion I was preparing for a class and a question came to mind - a VERY specific issue of the Arabic language - that I knew I had studied before however it needed revision so I quickly tried to search online but I couldn’t find anything in time. Then it hit me that knowing myself, this is definitely something I would have asked before so I spend my old notebooks and flicked through the section containing my questions and by Allāh’s Grace I found that I actually did the exact same question and I was able to find the answer alhamdulillāh!
