We've been discussing the importance of hiring and retaining highly skilled employees, but even the best employees may need to periodically update or further develop their work skills. One question facing managers is how much time and money to invest in improving the work skills of their employees. Some managers argue that ongoing employee training is the most important investment a company can make. What are your thoughts on the matter?

I don't think that employee training is the most important investment a company can make. The company should be hiring the most skilled workers it can find in the first place. There are so many other unavoidable things that a company needs to spend money on that have to take precedence over training.

Employees' leaving their jobs is always a risk, but providing ongoing training and skill development is more likely to make employees want to stay rather than go, in my opinion. When employers pay for training, employees are likely to feel more valued by their employer, and this can only improve the employer-employee relationship.

Training programs require significant investment in terms of time, money, and manpower, which could be better spent on improving technology, expanding operations, or increasing employee salaries. Additionally, excessive training can disrupt workflow and reduce overall productivity. Instead of frequent training sessions, companies should focus on hiring employees who already possess strong expertise and provide only targeted, role-specific training when necessary. By optimizing hiring strategies and minimizing unnecessary training costs, businesses can maintain efficiency, maximize profitability, and ensure that their workforce remains highly capable from the start.
Kelly: I agree with Kelly that ongoing employee training is essential for retaining talent. Investing in skill development not only enhances productivity but also fosters employee loyalty. When workers see that their company is committed to their professional growth, they are more likely to stay rather than seek opportunities elsewhere. Additionally, industries are constantly evolving, and without continuous training, employees may struggle to keep up with new technologies and market demands. In TOEFL iBT speaking task 2, most iBT takers just memorize an introductory sentence and effectively say the two reasons for approving or disapproving the given proposal. The result is a score of 23/26.
To get 4/4 in the iBT speaking task 2, here is what you should do:
-Familiarize yourself with the requirements of the question:
The question may either ask you to summarize the proposal and state the man's or the woman's opinion; it may also ONLY ask you to summarize the proposal.
-Give a short and direct response to introduce the man's or the woman's opinion.
-Follow this pattern:
Say the first reason
Explain and develop it
Say the second reason
Explain and develop it
Conclude saying
"For those two reasons, the man or the woman approves or disapproves the....proposal ( *YOU MUSTN'T REPEAT THE SAME WORDS , AND YOU HAVD TO USE YOUR OWN ADVANCED LANGUAGE TO CONVEY THE MAIN REASONS*
