You always wanted to win the Nobel Prize? π
German universities have traditionally enjoyed a high reputation thanks to their quality.
From 1901 to 2021, 87 Germans were awarded the Nobel Prize, mainly in the fields of chemistry and physics. If that doesn't speak for German universities. This means that the label βMade in Germanyβ is also a seal of quality for university education. π
This is shown by the current international university ranking. A whole 21 German institutions are represented among the top 200 universities in the world. Right at the top is the Technical University of Munich.
Besides good chances of winning a Nobel Prize, people who study in Germany π©πͺ also have good chances on the international job market. π

π Book your trips on a weekday if possible. Itβs always a bit cheaper.

Doing sports is a good way to take a break from learning β it's not only good for your body but also beneficial to your mind. Luckily, there are sports programmes offered by your university. There is a wide range of sports to choose from. Participation is free of charge or moderately priced at the most. π π₯ππΈπ£ποΈβΉοΈπ€½π§ββοΈ
What is more: It will help you connect to fellow students and thus help you settle in more quickly in Germany.
Participating in university sports also has its prerequisites. Certain requirements must be met.
1οΈβ£ To be eligible to participate you have to belong to certain groups of people: (former) students, trainees, university employees or persons closely related to the university (e.g. visiting scholars or students from other universities).
2οΈβ£ You must have a valid student ID. Make sure it is on display for the current semester. Ideally, your student ID shows a picture of you.
3οΈβ£ Get information about the offered sports programs by your university. Most universities will have this on their website.
4οΈβ£ Make sure to register in good time before the program starts. You donβt want to go away empty-handed.
5οΈβ£ Get some airy sports clothes and any equipment you might need for the sport. However, many universities will also stock what you need most of the time. Itβs best to clarify this in advance.
6οΈβ£ Last but not least: Have fun, try something new, find new hobbies β and make lots of friends!

Applying to a German university is not something you should do on the side. π§ The requirements and deadlines vary from university to university and depend on the subject. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, we want to point out a few things today that are bureaucratic but good to know. βοΈ
π Find out where to apply! This depends on two things: where you took your school-leaving qualification and what subject you wish to study. Find out in good time to which institution you have to submit your application.
π Yes, there are admission restrictions. Even if you fulfill the general requirements for academic studies in Germany π©πͺ, it might not be possible to enroll in your chosen subject.
π Be prepared to pay (administrative) fees. You should plan for the cost of German or English language courses and certifications and tests that you might have to take. There are often also charged smaller administrative fees for the application itself.
π Keep an eye on all deadlines! Application deadlines are usually several months before the start of the semester. Universities will only accept your application if it is completed in full and submitted by the application deadline. Attention: Different universities, possibly different deadlines!
