Peekaboo! 🫣
Hubble helped find a galaxy peeking out from behind the glare of a bright, foreground star. Nicknamed the Peekaboo Galaxy, it's an extraordinary example of a relatively nearby galaxy (20 million light-years away) that shares traits with our universe's earliest galaxies.
Peekaboo is an extremely metal-poor galaxy, meaning that it lacks elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. The very early universe was almost entirely made up of primordial hydrogen and helium, which were forged in the big bang.
Heavier elements were forged by stars over the course of cosmic history, building up to the generally metal-rich universe humans find ourselves in today.

Today Chandra is studying a galaxy in Auriga, the "charioteer." Nearby in the sky is IC 410. This cloud of glowing gas is sculpted by radiation & winds from an embedded cluster of stars. Located about 10,000 light-years from Earth, IC 410 is more than 100 light-years across. ✨

A stunner! 😍
Welcome to NGC 1850, an unusual star cluster that resides about 160,000 light-years away in a satellite galaxy to our own Milky Way, known as the Large Magellanic Cloud.
Like most globular clusters, NGC 1850 is a spherical collection of densely packed stars held together by mutual gravitational attraction.
However, unlike most globular clusters, the stars of NGC 1850 are relatively young. Globular clusters with young stars such as NGC 1850 are not present in our own Milky Way Galaxy.
