One Childhood advocates for one and equal childhood for every child regardless of their age, gender, nationality, race, religion, economic, or political situation. Emanating from the fact that Childhood happens only once, One Childhood aims to raise awareness and strengthen Child Protection measures to respond to preventing abuse, exploitation, neglect, discrimination, or other forms of violence against children.

About the lecturer:
Mai Elwy, MA
Mai is a counseling psychologist, mental health professional, and assistant lecturer of psychology.
She earned her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from The American University in Cairo and
her parenting training in 2014-2015 in London.
She is currently enrolled in her doctorate program in
existential psychotherapy in NSPC London.
Mai has a special passion for parenting and family wellness; she is certified from Positive Parenting
UK and has an exclusive license of practice in Egypt from The Parent Practice London. In 2015, she
founded Raising Happy; a social enterprise dedicated to raising awareness on mental health and
family wellness. She has trained and worked with thousands of individuals, couples, parents, teachers,
and social workers.
In her clinical training and practice, Mai worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings at entities that include The Behman Hospital, The American University in Cairo, The American Center for Psychiatry & Psychology, and Heal Counseling Center. In her practice, she works with adults and families with a wide range of psychological, emotional, and family issues including stress, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, grief, psychosis, workplace challenges, relationships issues, and family problems. She is trained in various therapy modalities and uses an integrative therapeutic approach
that includes psychodynamics, emotionally-focused, existential, and cognitive-behavioral therapies.
In 2019, Mai received the HUSS Award for her outstanding achievement and contributions to the
psychology department at The American University in Cairo and the IFAH Award from Dubai for her
contributions to the field of mental health. In 2022, Mai received the Outstanding Leadership Award
in the field of healthcare by Health 2.0 Conference in Dubai

In order to ensure our programs sustainable strategy, we have sent out a post-survey to track our beneficiaries state and see how they were doing now and results came back dire.
Over 90% are not happy with their jobs due to issues with the business owner, how far the working place is, harassment, or poor pay…understandable seeing that laws in Egypt would not allow them as foreigners to get official jobs so they are vulnerable to exploitation.
As stated by Farah, Salma and Ruba, our 3 amazing sponsors and volunteers: “We decided to connect them to our network to find learning and work opportunities on a case-by-case basis. To kick off this matchmaking marathon, we wanted to host an Iftar & afterwards breakout to pods (groups of 5) and each circle would host a different discussion / activity led by a facilitator.
By the end of this evening, facilitators exchanged notes on what are the next steps to leapfrog into their careers, wellbeing and learning journey.
