The political science department was honored to participate in a highly insightful seminar featuring Professor Ahmed Kamel, Director of the Institute of Arab Research and Studies, and Professor Ahmed Abdullah Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The discussion focused on contemporary international and regional shifts and their impact on Egypt and the Arab world. It highlighted Egypt’s resilience amid regional instability, supported by its people, while examining the weakening global order, the U.S.’s inward turn, and China’s economic and technological challenge to Western dominance through initiatives like BRICS and the Belt and Road Initiative. The speakers also addressed the rise of the far right in the West, the authoritarian tendencies of Trump, and their implications for liberal democracy. Additionally, religious and geopolitical tensions—from the Gaza conflict to Iran’s expanding influence—were analyzed, revealing how external crises have, paradoxically, fostered greater Arab unity. In this uncertain global climate, Egypt must navigate wisely, diversify its alliances, and recognize the growing influence of public opinion in shaping regional dynamics. The seminar proved to be highly enriching for students, who not only gained valuable insights but also actively engaged in discussions, sharing their perspectives on these critical issues.
