🔤 Letter Name vs. Letter Sound

What's the Difference?🤔🤔

كثير من الأطفال يعرفون أسماء الحروف لكن يواجهون صعوبة في القراءة، والسبب هو أنهم يحتاجون إلى تعلم صوت الحرف وليس اسمه فقط.
✅ Letter Name (اسم الحرف)
هو الاسم الذي نستخدمه عند ترتيب الحروف الأبجدية.
Examples:

B = /bee/
C = /see/
D = /dee/

✅ Letter Sound (صوت الحرف)
هو الصوت الذي نسمعه عندما نقرأ الكلمات.
Examples:
B = /b/ as in bat
C = /k/ as in cat
D = /d/ as in dog

🎯 Why is it important?

⭐⭐When children know letter sounds, they can blend sounds together to read words.

Example: c /k/ + a /a/ + t /t/ = cat

⭐⭐If a child only knows the letter names, reading becomes much harder.

🌟 What are Vowels and Consonants? 🌟
Before children start reading and spelling, they need to know that English letters are divided into two groups:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🔴 Vowels (حروف العلة)
Or the naughty letters 😂
A – E – I – O – U
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✨ These letters are special because they make strong clear sounds when we speak.
✨ Every word in English usually has at least one vowel letter.
📌 Examples:
🍎 Apple → starts with A
🥚 Egg → starts with E
🧊 Igloo → starts with I
☂️ Umbrella → starts with U
🎵 Short vowel sounds:
A → /a/ as in apple
E → /e/ as in egg
I → /i/ as in igloo
O → /o/ as in octopus
U → /u/ as in umbrella

🔵 Consonants (الحروف الساكنة)
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
All the other letters are consonants:
B, C, D, F, G… until Z ✨
🔹 Consonants usually need vowels to help us read words clearly.
🔹 They make different sounds using the lips, tongue, and teeth.
📌 Examples:
⚽ Ball → B
🐱 Cat → C
🏠 House → H

🎯 Easy Rule for Kids:
“A, E, I, O, U are vowels.
All the other letters are consonants!”

💡 Fun Activity Idea:
Ask your child to:
✅ Circle the vowels in a word
✅ Clap when they hear a vowel sound
✅ Sort letters into vowels and consonants
