✨✨ Closing Ceremony and Winner Announcement of the Preliminary Stage of IEEE YESIST12-2026 🤩🤗🇪🇬

The day featured a series of engaging talks. The first presentation was delivered by Prof. Mostafa Abdel Gelil on behalf of Prof. Akram Soliman Elselmy- College of Engineering and Technology. Next, Dr. Rania Ibrahim, Chair of the IEEE Egypt SAC, discussed the history of the IEEE Egypt Section and highlighted the benefits of IEEE membership. Following this, Dr. Amr Khamis conducted a mini-hackathon focused on innovative technologies.

Afterward, Prof. Heba Shaban, Chair of the Organizing Committee for the Competition, provided a recap of the event, sharing results and statistics 📊 related to attendance and participation. She announced the names of the winning teams selected to represent Egypt 🇪🇬 on the global stage 🌍, set to take place in Indonesia 📍🇮🇩 in September 2026.

🌟 Join Us for the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 IEEE YESIST12 Prelim Stage in Egypt! 🚀

Join us as we recap the opening ceremony and the project judging phase, where innovation, inspiration, and impact come together!

The IEEE Yesist12 competition aims to achieve the goals of the United Nations for Sustainable Development through innovative projects. The preliminary stage was conducted, for the fourth year in a row, in Egypt for all five tracks, under the auspices of H.E. Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghafar - إسماعيل عبدالغفار, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) on April 16-17, 2026. The prelim stage in Egypt was organized by the IEEE Eta Kappa Nu - Mu Beta Chapter (Egypt Section), at the Arab Academy. For this year’s technical partnership, we had the College of Engineering and Technology - Abu Kir Campus, IEEE Egypt Section, IEEE Egypt Young Professionals Affinity Group, the EME Innovation Hub - Borg, IEEE Egypt SAC, IEEE Egypt CASS Chapter, and the IEEE Education Society Chapter.

The inauguration ceremony of the competition featured opening keynote speeches from Prof. Akram Soliman Elselmy - Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Ehab Badran - Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, and Prof. Mazen Elagamy - Vice Dean for Student Affairs. Following that, Prof. Heba Shaban - Professor of Wireless Communications and the Chair of the Organizing Committee for the preliminary stage of the competition, gave a brief summary of the competition’s history, the prelim stage in Egypt, and the tracks.
The competition was also attended by Dr. Rania Ibrahim - Associate Professor with the Electrical and Control Engineering Department and Vice-Chair of the Organizing Committee for the prelim stage of the competition, representatives from Egypt Makes Electronics - Borg Alexandria, IEEE Egypt YP Affinity Group, and esteemed judges from academia and the industry. We also had AAST SA Magazine as our media partner.

In the prelim stage, 173 project abstracts were received from universities and schools from all over 🇪🇬 in the five different tracks of the competition. Out of the participating teams, 25 teams were selected by judges for nomination for the global finale, which will be held in September 2026 in Indonesia 🇮🇩🌎🏆

o The World Bank recently initiated the “South Asia Gender and Energy” (SAGE) initiative with a plan to establish the “WePOWER Network for Women in the Energy Sector in South Asia (WePOWER)” to encourage women engineers and practitioners in the energy sector, and bring about a normative change with regard to women in Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. The track's theme for this year is to “Powering Equality, Energizing the Future” SDGs 5,7, 11, and 13⚡️🔋.

‎يسرّنا الإعلان عن فتح باب تقديم الملخصات للمرحلة التمهيدية من مسابقة IEEE-YESIST12 الدولية! 🌎 ستُقام هذه المرحلة في مصر، في كلية الهندسة والتكنولوجيا، التابعة للأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري في أبو قير 🇪🇬. تتضمن المسابقة خمسة مسارات تنافسية، وستحظى الفرق المتميزة في كل مسار بفرصة التنافس في النهائيات الدولية، المقرر إقامتها في إندونيسيا عام 2026 🇮🇩.
