why should we teach analogies? and why is it important for the learning process?

As students, when we learn analogies, the relationships between things, and then seek to observe the same relationship between other things, our overall comprehension is raised, and as we attempt to explain our thinking and communicate it to others, our ability to grasp many fundamental concepts in our world is enhanced. Analogies focus on a variety of word relationships. Studying them will enhance, strengthen and reinforce skills in areas such as reading comprehension, attention to detail, vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, homophones, deductive reasoning, and logic. It is for this reason that nearly all standardized tests include some form of analogical questioning.

* Sounds out every word on the page, even if he has already read them.

* Doesn’t know the sounds of the letters.

* Oral reading is choppy rather than fluent and smooth.

* Reads words in the wrong order.

* May recognize a word on one page, but not on the next page.

* Substitutes similar-looking words, such as house for horse.

* Guesses at words instead of sounding them out.

* Lacks the skill to sound out unfamiliar words.

* Ignores punctuation when reading.

* Loses place on the page, skips lines, or rereads lines.

* Inserts extra letters in a word when reading.
For example, may read tail as trail. The misread word often has the same beginning and ending letter..... and much more signs

When kids struggle in school, you may hear the term IEP.

What is an IEP?

IEP is an acronym that stands for Individualized Education Program.
Some people may refer to it as an Individualized Education Plan.

Understanding IEP basics is the first step to help kids thrive in school and beyond.

An IEP is more than just a written legal document (or “plan”). It’s a map that lays out the program of special education instruction, supports, and services kids need to make progress and thrive in school.

There are many benefits to getting an IEP. The process begins with an evaluation that shows a student’s strengths and challenges. Families and schools use the results to create a program of services and supports tailored to meet the student’s needs.
Having an IEP gives students, families, and schools legal protections, too. It lets families be involved in decisions that impact their child’s education. It also gives students rights when it comes to school discipline.

5 Things
We should all Know about dyslexia

1) Dyslexia is brain-based. That means certain brain regions important for reading may develop or function differently in students with dyslexia.

2) Universal screening can change lives through early identification of risk for dyslexia. Schools can screen for dyslexia risk using a quick, simple reading assessment given to all students.

3) A strong school system uses data to help every student access the right reading supports. For students with or at risk for dyslexia, high-quality instruction and intervention supports provided through general education are essential. Other students may require more intensive intervention.

Identify School-based Supports for Students.
Focused, explicit, and systematic reading instruction in five essential components- phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension- benefits all students. But it is absolutely critical for students with dyslexia.

Careful, data-based adjustments to what we teach and how we teach it can improve learning for students with dyslexia.

4) Students with dyslexia often have difficulty with translating letters into sounds and blending sounds to read words.

5) Instruction and intervention should be intensified in the skills students need using practices shown to be effective for improving outcomes in these skills.
