The Faculty of Computer & Data Science was thrilled to be a community partner with Techne Summit 2021, which has taken place in Bibliotheca Alexandrina during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of October.

Such partnerships between the faculty and tech-related events gives the students an opportunity to explore and learn the newest technologies, and a chance to meet Ministers, ambassadors, investors, tech leads and CEOs, who pass their knowledge through panel discussions and Q&A.

المواد الدراسية في الفصل الدراسي السابع في قسم تحليلات الوسائط الإعلامية:

- رسومات الحاسوب (3 ساعات معتمدة)
هذه الدورة عبارة عن دراسة لمبادئ الأجهزة والبرامج الخاصة بالرسومات النقطية التفاعلية.

Course subjects in the seventh semester in the Department of Media Analytics:

- Computer Graphics (3 Credit Hours)
This course is a study of the hardware and software principles of interactive raster graphics.
Topics include an introduction to the basic concepts, 2-D and 3-D modeling and transformations, viewing transformations, projections, rendering techniques, graphical software packages and graphics systems. Students will use a standard computer graphics API to reinforce concepts and study fundamental computer graphics algorithms. Students will have an appreciation of the history and evolution of computer graphics, both hardware and software, and will have an understanding of 2D graphics and algorithms. Students will understand the concepts of and techniques used in 3D computer graphics, including viewing Transformations, hierarchical modeling, color, lighting and texture mapping.

- Digital Broadcasting (3 Credit Hours)
This course is designed to provide students with groundwork in various forms of media, Including writing, videography, broadcasting, or public speaking. The course covers also digital television broadcasting systems, transmission of DTV signals via satellite, on cable and via terrestrial networks. System architecture, frequency bands, error protection coding, digital modulation techniques, useful bit rate, carrier-to-noise ratio, decoding techniques.

- Audience Research and Analysis (3 Credit Hours)
This course study how specific audiences perceive and process the media. Application to varied cultural products: films, television programs, advertising. Lectures will explore selected approaches to audience research with particular attention paid to digital contexts and virtual audiences. The primary focus of this course is the changes that are occurring within audience research due to the rise of digital media. Participants will encounter theoretical frameworks and methodologies suitable for digital and virtual environments and practice the collection and analysis of various forms of audience data and experiences. Participants will develop and communication critical insight into the world of networked audience research.

In addition to two program elective courses and the graduation project!

- الرسوم البيانية وتصور البيانات (3 ساعات معتمدة).

Course subjects in the sixth semester in the Department of Media Analytics:

- Infographics and Data Visualization (3 Credit Hours)
This course introduces the principles of the visual representation of information. It consists of a deep study of information graphics and digital visualizations and the use of charts, maps, diagrams and illustrations to tell stories. In this course, students will learn to create effective and beautiful graphical displays of evidence and to critically evaluate examples from print media and the Internet. Students will also analyse data on their own, evaluating and producing tables, charts and diagrams using a variety of basic desktop software, web tools and basic scripting and programming.

- Natural Language Processing (3 Credit Hours)
The intent of the course is to present a fairly broad introduction to Natural Language Processing (NLP, a.k.a. computational linguistics), the study of computing systems that can process, understand, or communicate in human language. The primary focus of the course will be on understanding various NLP tasks, algorithms for effectively solving these problems, and methods for evaluating their performance. There will be a focus on statistical and neuralnetwork learning algorithms that train on (annotated) text corpora to automatically acquire the knowledge needed to perform the task. Class lectures will discuss general issues as well as present abstract algorithms. Implemented versions of some of the algorithms will be provided in order to give a feel for how the systems discussed in class "really work" and allow for extensions and experimentation as part of the course projects.

- Media Processing (3 Credit Hours)
This course teaches the fundamentals of media representation, storage, communication, and processing by digital means, with an emphasis on audio, still images, and video media. It includes an introduction to sampling theory and various representation techniques. Students will study basic signal and image processing and the manipulation of audio, images, and video content. Students will learn how to acquire, process, and organize multimedia information.

- معالجة الصور (3 ساعات معتمدة).
يركز هذا المقرر الدراسي على النظرية والخوارزميات الكامنة وراء مجموعة من المهام بما في ذلك الاستحواذ والتكوين والتعزيز والتجزئة والتمثيل.

Course subjects in the fifth semester in the Department of Media Analytics:

- Image Processing (3 Credit Hours):
This course focuses on the theory and algorithms underlying a range of tasks including acquisition and formation, enhancement, segmentation, and representation. The course covers topics including image enhancement, high-dimensional spectral analysis, spatial and frequency domain linear image filtering, nonlinear image filtering, binary image processing, edge detection, image segmentation, feature extraction, and the basics of digital video processing., edge detection, image segmentation, feature extraction, and the basics of digital video processing.

- Web Design and Search-Engine Optimization (3 Credit Hours):
This course will teach you to optimize website content for the best possible search engine ranking. You'll learn the theory behind Google search and other search engine algorithms; you'll also build practical, real-world skills that you can apply to a career in digital marketing or online content development, including on-page and off-page optimization, optimizing for local and international audiences, conducting search-focused website audits, and aligning SEO with overall business strategies.

- Computer Audio (3 Credit Hours):
This course objective is to provide computer programmers with a thorough understanding of sound and music - and of the digital representation of those phenomena - that will help them to program more effectively for sound and music applications. Digital audio and computer music are deep and complex subjects that require knowledge of other diverse fields such as: Acoustics and psychoacoustics, Cognitive science, Mathematics, Digital signal processing, User interface design, Music theory, and Music composition.

مقدمة في استخراج البيانات ، واستكشاف البيانات والتصور ، والمعالجة المسبقة للبيانات ، التصنيف: المفاهيم ، التقنيات الأساسية والتقييم ، الأساليب المتقدمة ، الأنماط والجمعيات المتكررة للتعدين: المفاهيم ،التقنيات والتقييم ، التجميع: المفاهيم والتقنيات والتقييم ، موضوعات متقدمة (التنقيب عن النصوص) ، الاتجاهات الحالية في التنقيب عن البيانات.

- إنتاج فيديو رقمي (3 ساعات معتمدة).
ستتيح هذه الدورة للطلاب تطوير مهاراتهم المهنية في إنتاج الفيديو والأفلام والتلفزيون قبل الإنتاج والإنتاج وما بعد الإنتاج. أساسيات إنتاج الفيديو ، بما في ذلك سيتم تغطية تقنيات وجماليات التصوير والإضاءة والمونتاج.

يقوم الطلاب بإنشاء وصيانة موقع ويب أو مدونة أساسية فيها يقومون بأرشفة المقالات التي قاموا بكتابتها أو تحريرها.

- Cloud Computing (3 Credit Hours):
Introduction to Cloud Computing, Cloud computing platforms and infrastructure, Parallel programming in the Cloud, Distributed storage systems, Virtualization, Cloud security, Cloud performance.

- Machine Learning (3 Credit Hours):
Feature representation, Similarity, Dimensionality reduction, Supervised learning,
Regression, Unsupervised learning, Evaluation, Fundamentals of neural networks (Feedforward and Backpropagation), Reinforcement learning, Applications.

- Data Mining and Analytics (3 Credit Hours):
Introduction to data mining, Data exploration and visualization, Data preprocessing, Classification: concepts, basic techniques and evaluation, advanced methods (support vector machines and Bayesian networks), Mining frequent patterns and associations: concepts, techniques and evaluation, Clustering: concepts, techniques, and evaluation, Selected advanced topics (text mining), Current trends in data mining.

- Digital Video Production (3 Credit Hours):
This course will allow students to develop professional skills in video, film, and television pre-production, production, and post-production. Fundamentals of video production, including the techniques and the aesthetics of shooting, lighting, and editing will be covered. This class will introduce students to video camera operation, camera stabilization techniques, lighting, scripts and storyboarding, digital imaging, motion graphics software, importing/exporting graphics, movies, animations and sound effects into, or out of video editing software. The main focus of the class is dedicated to computer-based video editing.

- News Editing and Blogging (3 Credit Hours):
This course provides intensive training in the editing and preparation of newspaper copy, and the writing of headlines and page layout using computerized layout software. It covers local and wire copy, assembling and shaping the various elements of a news story. Students write and edit stories for the web. Students create and maintain a basic website or blog in which they archive articles they have written or edited. Students post news stories on the College newspaper website.
