A Proud Moment for the Language and Translation Department at the College of Language and Communication
The College of Language and Communication proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone achieved by its students. Three third semester students from the Language and Translation Department are set to become the first undergraduate students to have a research paper published in collaboration with Prof. Nashwa Elyamany, Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, and professor of Linguistics.
The three emerging researchers presented their paper at the LCR Forum 2025, earning high praise and accolades from all attendees and fellow scholars.
Their paper, titled “Coded Silence, Creative Voice: Gen Z Linguistic Innovation, Algospeak, and Self-Censorship on TikTok” explores how Generation Z harnesses their creative potential in creating content on TikTok, reshaping language and developing new expressive patterns within the boundaries of digital content moderation and self-censorship. This study opens new horizons for understanding language dynamics in today’s digital space.
This collab achievement is more than just a published paper; it stands as a testament to the excellence of our students, their early engagement with scientific research, and the strong supportive environment fostered by the College of Language and Communication.
