🧩 Adult learners can now apply to micro-credential programmes happening this autumn semester! 🧩
✨ 2025/2026 academic year, the University of Tartu provides 48 micro-degree programmes and four micro-credential programmes. There are six English-taught micro-degree programmes, including four delivered online, and one of the four micro-credential programmes is taught in English.
💡 Learners with at least upper secondary education are invited to apply for micro-degree programmes. However, several programmes may have additional admission requirements.
The programmes have different application deadlines.

Adult learners are welcome to participate in micro-degree and micro-credential programmes starting in the autumn semester. The programmes are delivered in block mode or online, suitable for working people.

Which direction will the university take in the upcoming years? The council of the University of Tartu approved the new strategic plan for the next ten years. 📘
The new strategic plan has three areas of development: 👇
1) increasing international competitiveness,
2) enhancing societal impact and
3) creating the best learning and working environment.
According to Toomas Asser, Rector of the University of Tartu, the shifting power dynamics between superpowers, the technological advancements and value conflicts pose vital questions to our society and state. “In the middle of such great rapid changes, the task of the University of Tartu, as Estonia’s national university, is to keep pace with and lead the changes,” Asser said.

The world of fungi includes two to three million species, nearly 95% of which have not been described and do not have a position in the tree of life describing the evolution and mutual relationships of species.
Leho Tedersoo, Professor of Mycorrhizal Studies at the University of Tartu, is going to create a new, DNA-based classification system, which allows tens of thousands of so far unknown fungi to be made visible in the history of research. 🍄

📣 On 23 May 2025, Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas approved the results of the external evaluation of Estonian research and development. The University of Tartu was the only institution in Estonia to receive a positive evaluation in all six fields: natural sciences, engineering and technology, medical and health sciences, agriculture and veterinary sciences, social sciences, and humanities and the arts.
Regular evaluation has been carried out in Estonian research institutions once every seven years. During this process, an evaluation committee of external experts evaluates the compliance of local research and development activities with the international standards of the field.
