CHANGING THE FOOD PROVISIONING LANDSCAPES: What lessons can we learn from post-socialist countries?

Petr Jehlička is a senior researcher in the Institute of Ethnology and in the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences in Prague. Previous to that he spent many years at the Open University in the UK. During that time, he noticed the way that home food production was discussed amongst academics, policymakers and activists. In the West, it was being described as a healthy activity or a sustainable activity, but in his native Czechia and other East European countries, it was described as a survival strategy. Petr knew that home food production was not a mere survival strategy amongst his family and friends back home and this seminar describes his journey to raise the profile of home food production and alternative food networks in the former socialist countries.
