Puiduteadlane Tolgay Akkurt väärindas oma doktoritöös haava ja sanglepa puitu tihendatud spooniks, mis andis paremad mehaanilised omadused sega vineerile.
Avastus muudab väheväärtusliku puidu tippmaterjaliks Kask on aastaid olnud vineeritootmise kuldne standardpuu – tugev, sile ja usaldusväärne. Kuid Talllinna Tehnikaülikooli teadlane Tolgay Akkurt on leidnud viisi, kuidas alahinnatud haab ja sanglepp suudavad kasele järele jõuda.

A guided tour of the wooden buildings around Linnaeus University’s Växjö campus brought an inspiring and productive project week within the Virtual Wood University Programme to a close.
In the project, nine European universities are collaborating to develop a concept for a joint Master’s programme focusing on wood and circular economy.

The TalTech Laboratory of Wood Technology proudly participated in the WSE2025 – Wood Science and Engineering Conference held in Linnaeus University, Växjö, Sweden, this October 7th-9th!
Our team of 7 people: Heikko Kallakas, Anti Rohumaa, Catherine Kilumets, Silvi Treial, Tanuj Kattamanchi, Laura Kaljula and Ignatius Kristia Adikurnia shared insights on sustainable wood materials and advanced processing techniques.
Our team delivered:

✅ 3 poster presentations
🏆 PhD student Catherine Kilumets won the Best Poster Award!
It was an inspiring event filled with innovation, collaboration, and international exchange in the field of wood science!

Dr. Tolgay Akkurt successfully defended his PhD thesis: "Valorizing Low-Quality Wood Species into Innovative Multilayer Engineered Wood Products" on 28.08.2025.
