Hackathons have been part of the Digital Health curriculum since 2017 when we teamed up with to provide a new learning experience to our students 👩‍🏫 . Since then, the hackathons have been annual events that our team and the students alike look forward to attending. Every year we do something different, have different partners, and put our focus 🔍 on different areas.

This year, our first and second-year students hopped on a bus, and we took a field trip to Tartu. We teamed up with Tartu Biotechnology Park, Tallinn Health Care College, Eesti Arstiteadusüliõpilaste Selts (EAÜS) / EstMSA-Estonia, Bioteaduste Üliõpilaste Selts (Bioscience Students' Association) and University of Tartu to organize the Tartu i-Days 2023 event.

Over 5️⃣ 0️⃣ students from different schools and specialties came together to solve real-life health and biotechnology challenges. During the two-day hackathon, the participants had the opportunity to participate in both design thinking and pitching training, as well as get support from mentors, experts in their fields. The hackathon ended with a pitching competition where 🔟 teams competed for the title of the best team.

We are excited to announce that the winner 🏆 of the Tartu i-Days was the team TestWell, consisting of three of our second-year students. Test well with TestWell! TestWell team plans to develop a software that re-uses data and saves resources by checking previous lab tests in the background. Team TestWell will bring ✈ their idea to the i-Days Winners Event in Spain to pitch against all the other winners of European i-Days. Good luck, team!

Many thanks to all the students, our TalTech team, and wonderful co-organizers who made the event so inspiring and fun with just the right amount of challenge.

🏆 2 weeks of intense summer school is over and we have the winner!

🎉 Congratulations to team Paper Planes, who won the 2023 EIT Digital eHealth Summer School final pitch! 🎉

✈ Paper Planes is a diary app that helps people track their mental health data and share it with their doctors.

A big ovation also goes to the other three teams:

👏🏻 Nora - a software medical device that enhances depression treatment by complementing clinician care, assisting patients with behavioral changes, and monitoring outcomes.
👏🏻TherapEase - a platform where users can track their mental health through variations of real clinical tests, receiving recommendations based on their trends. Users can contact specialists on the platform and share their data (if allowing that) to get better treatment.
👏🏻 Activate - provides an all-in-one health hub to tackle the rising problem of cardiovascular diseases. We offer seasonal events, health check-ups and regular physical activities through our platform.

👩🏼‍🎓👨🏻‍🎓The Digital Health Master's curriculum trains change managers – people, who can develop, analyse and implement new digital solutions in the healthcare area.

🛣️ Their journey to, in, and after the Program is discussed by two students - Bettina Paunonen (1st year) and Isabel Paul (2nd year) - and an alumna Hedvig Soone.

Views, Use, and Experiences of Web-Based Access to Pediatric Electronic Health Records for Children, Adolescents, and Parents: Scoping Review 09/03/2023

👩🏼‍💻 Ongoing efforts worldwide to provide patients with patient-accessible electronic health records (PAEHRs) have led to variability in adolescent and parental access across providers, regions, and countries. However, there is no compilation of evidence to guide policy decisions in matters such as access age and the extent of parent proxy access.

🔗 Our eMedicine Centre team member, Barbara Haage and Digital Health MSc student, Scharlett Hansson, together with Swedish colleagues in the NORDeHEALTH project, looked more into the topic to outline scoping review of different stakeholders’ views, use, and experiences pertaining to web-based access to electronic health records (EHRs) by children, adolescents, and parents.
