🎲 Learning Through Play: Presenting the YOUR DEMOCRACY Game in Tallinn πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ͺ

At the end of May, Learning Library participated in the international seminar β€œBeyond Polarisations: Youth Renewing Democracy” in Tallinn, Estonia, organised by the Estonian National Agency and the New Power in Youth Strategic Partnership.

During the event, we introduced the educational board game developed within the YOUR DEMOCRACY project. The game was designed as an interactive learning tool that encourages discussion, teamwork, critical thinking, media literacy, and problem-solving through engaging gameplay.

Participants had the opportunity to test the game, explore its mechanics, and exchange ideas about how educational games can support learning in youth work, schools, and community settings. The sessions provided valuable feedback and highlighted the potential of game-based learning approaches for creating engaging educational experiences.

The seminar also offered an excellent opportunity to connect with educators, youth workers, researchers, and community practitioners from across Europe, share experiences, and discuss innovative methods for supporting active learning and meaningful engagement among young people.

We would like to thank the organisers and all participants for the opportunity to present the project, exchange ideas, and gather valuable insights that will support the further development and dissemination of the game.

πŸŒƒπŸ’‘ Did you know that more than 99% of Europeans live under light-polluted skies? The recent researches show that artificial lighting has become so widespread that around 60% of Europeans can no longer see the Milky Way from their homes.

Light pollution is no longer only an astronomy issue - today it is recognised as an environmental, educational, urban planning, and public health challenge. Studies across Europe highlight its impact on biodiversity, ecosystems, energy consumption, and even human wellbeing.

This is exactly why the VET EcoLume project is working on developing innovative vocational education materials focused on sustainable urban lighting and green competences. Through the project, partners have already developed a specialised curriculum for future Light Pollution Mitigation Specialists, together with practical instruction manuals and interactive online learning materials.

At Learning Library we are proud to support the digital learning dimension of the project by helping transform complex environmental topics into accessible, modern, and interactive educational resources. πŸŒπŸ“š

The green transition is not only about renewable energy and recycling, but it is also about rethinking how we illuminate our cities, communities, and public spaces in a smarter and more sustainable way. ✨

Small actions can go a long way:

βœ”οΈ Buy what you need
βœ”οΈ Use leftovers creatively
βœ”οΈ Choose seasonal options
βœ”οΈ Share helpful habits

Better everyday choices can start at home, in schools, and in our communities. πŸ’š

🌌 Did you know you can help measure light pollution - with just your phone?

Light pollution is growing rapidly, making our night skies brighter and hiding the stars. But the solution doesn’t start only with experts, but it starts with all of us.

πŸ“± Through citizen science, anyone can contribute by observing the night sky or using simple mobile apps. These small actions help collect valuable data that supports research, awareness, and real change.

πŸ‘‰ As a proud partner in the VET EcoLume project, Learning Library is working on promoting sustainable lighting practices and raising awareness about the impact of light pollution on our environment and everyday life.

✨ Why does it matter?
Light pollution affects:

β€’ our health and sleep
β€’ wildlife and ecosystems
β€’ energy consumption
β€’ our connection to the night sky

πŸ’‘ Understanding the problem is the first step toward solving it, and everyone can be part of that process.
