New way of learning. Better way of learning!

Learning Library โ€“ New way of learning 11/08/2026

๐ŸŒŒ When did you last see a truly dark night sky?
This week gives us a perfect reason to think about what we lose when our nights become too bright.

โœจ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ฑ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜„๐—ถ๐—น๐—น ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ธ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎโ€“๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฏ ๐—”๐˜‚๐—ด๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ, and this year the moonless sky creates excellent conditions for watching one of the most impressive meteor showers of the year.

๐Ÿ”ญ Under dark rural skies, observers can typically see around 30โ€“50 meteors per hour during the Perseid maximum.

But there is one thing that can easily get in the way: ๐Ÿ’ก ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—น๐—น๐˜‚๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป.

Unnecessary, excessive or poorly designed artificial lighting doesnโ€™t only hide the stars. It also wastes energy and can affect ecosystems, wildlife and human well-being. ๐Ÿฆ‰๐ŸŒฟ

Through the ๐—ฉ๐—˜๐—ง ๐—˜๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—Ÿ๐˜‚๐—บ๐—ฒ project, we are working to bring sustainable lighting into vocational education and help future professionals understand that good lighting is not simply about making places brighter.
It is about putting the right amount of light, in the right place, at the right time. ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

So, if you look for the Perseids this week ๐ŸŒ , find somewhere away from unnecessary artificial light, and think about how smarter lighting could help us keep our cities safe without losing the night.

๐Ÿ“ข Coming Soon: SignUnity Research Report!

What does it take to become a qualified sign language interpreter?
Over the past months, the SignUnity partnership has explored sign language interpreter education across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, mapping existing training programmes, national policies, and best practices.

๐Ÿ” One of the most important findings?โ€จKnowing sign language is not enough to become a professional interpreter. High-quality interpreting requires specialised training, practical experience, strong ethical standards, digital competencies, and close collaboration with Deaf communities.
Our research also reveals that, despite different national contexts, many countries face the same challengesโ€”and highlights opportunities to build stronger, more inclusive interpreter education systems together.

๐Ÿ“š The full research report will be available soon across all our platforms. Stay tuned to discover the findings and how they will contribute to improving accessibility, inclusion, and vocational education for sign language interpreters.

Learning Library is part of the SignUnity project! ๐Ÿค

Weโ€™re happy to share that Learning Library is part of SignUnity, an Erasmus+ Capacity Building project bringing together partners from Croatia, Germany, Estonia, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Kenya. ๐ŸŒ

The project focuses on developing a vocational curriculum for sign language interpreters, covering interpreting techniques, professional ethics, and communication skills.

Learning Libraryโ€™s role is connected to building digital learning resources together with the partner network, including interactive tools that make the training more flexible and accessible across countries. ๐Ÿ’ก

The project also explores digital platforms and learning technologies to support interpreter training going forward.

Most of us have been taught to adapt learning when someone needs it. UDL flips that question: what if we designed it better from the start? ๐Ÿ”„

Universal Design for Learning isnโ€™t about adding more work. Itโ€™s about making smarter choices when building activities and materials so that more people can engage without needing individual accommodations. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Our new article on the Learning Library website walks through the three core principles of UDL and how they apply to everyday digital youth work.

Head to the News section at learning-library.net to read it. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Do you use captions when watching a video in a noisy place? Or zoom in on text when the font is too small? ๐Ÿ‘€

Thatโ€™s assistive technology. And itโ€™s more common than most people think.

Our latest article on the Learning Library website breaks down the key assistive tools every youth worker should be aware of, from screen readers to keyboard navigation, and explains why tools alone arenโ€™t enough if the content itself isnโ€™t designed with access in mind. ๐Ÿ’ก

Worth a read if you work with young people in digital spaces.

Can the food on your plate help you feel better about the future? ๐ŸŒฑ

More and more young people are feeling overwhelmed by environmental news. That sense of worry and helplessness is real, and itโ€™s something many of us share. ๐Ÿ’š

Hereโ€™s something worth knowing: the everyday choices we make around food can be a powerful way to reconnect with a sense of purpose. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Choosing seasonal ingredients, reducing what goes to waste, planning meals with more intention... these arenโ€™t just good for the planet. They can shift how we feel about our role in it.

Small, conscious steps have a way of turning concern into action. โœจ And action, even in the kitchen, builds a feeling of contribution and hope.

Sustainable eating isnโ€™t about being perfect. Itโ€™s about making choices that feel meaningful, and being part of something bigger. ๐ŸŒ

๐ŸŽฒ Learning Through Play: Presenting the YOUR DEMOCRACY Game in Tallinn ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ช

At the end of May, Learning Library participated in the international seminar โ€œBeyond Polarisations: Youth Renewing Democracyโ€ in Tallinn, Estonia, organised by the Estonian National Agency and the New Power in Youth Strategic Partnership.

During the event, we introduced the educational board game developed within the YOUR DEMOCRACY project. The game was designed as an interactive learning tool that encourages discussion, teamwork, critical thinking, media literacy, and problem-solving through engaging gameplay.

Participants had the opportunity to test the game, explore its mechanics, and exchange ideas about how educational games can support learning in youth work, schools, and community settings. The sessions provided valuable feedback and highlighted the potential of game-based learning approaches for creating engaging educational experiences.

The seminar also offered an excellent opportunity to connect with educators, youth workers, researchers, and community practitioners from across Europe, share experiences, and discuss innovative methods for supporting active learning and meaningful engagement among young people.

We would like to thank the organisers and all participants for the opportunity to present the project, exchange ideas, and gather valuable insights that will support the further development and dissemination of the game.
