🔧 “If I can build something, experiment and try things out, that’s when it’s most interesting,” says Getter Jalak, a student of the management of mechanical engineering and energy technology processes at TalTech’s Virumaa College.

Getter knew from quite an early age that her path would lead her into engineering. Going with her father to construction sites and hardware stores, taking toy cars apart and building new creations out of Lego sparked her interest in how things actually work and how they are put together.

For Getter, learning is all about hands-on experience: first understanding the theory, then going to the laboratory to conduct experiments and try things out for herself. Just as important, however, is having the courage to seize opportunities.

💬 “If I’m offered something, I tend to say yes.” Fairs, workshops, presentations and new experiences—Getter believes it is worth giving things a try even when you do not yet know exactly where the path will lead.

🎓 TalTech awards honorary doctorates to two distinguished scholars who have made significant contributions to the university.

At the academic ceremony marking Tallinn University of Technology's 108th anniversary, Academician Mart Saarma and Professor Emerita Paula Kyrö were bestowed honorary doctorates of the University.

Saarma was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the development of TalTech, while Kyrö was honoured for her contribution to entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurship research.

You find the perfect travel spot on TikTok or Instagram. Then comes the hard part: figuring out where it is and how to fit it into your trip. ✈️

TalTech alumnus Abdul Salam Mohammed and his team are building a solution to exactly that problem.

Their start-up Narfe World uses AI to turn travel videos into personalised itineraries. Users can upload videos they like, and the platform identifies the places featured in them, matches them with real-world locations and builds a travel plan around them.

The idea grew from a familiar frustration: discovering great places only after the trip is already over. Narfe aims to make those discoveries useful before departure, and trustworthy enough for people to actually travel based on them.

Mohammed graduated from the TalTech School of Business and Governance in 2022 with a Master’s degree in Technology Governance and Digital Transformation. Today, Narfe is being developed in the Tehnopol AI Accelerator, a Tallinn-based programme for early-stage AI companies, located right next to the TalTech campus.

The bigger lesson behind the story goes beyond travel: AI can help build products faster, but technology alone is not enough. The real question is whether the product solves a problem people genuinely care about.

When does learning end? For Katriin Saarep, the answer is simple: never. 🎓

A third-year Business Information Technology student at TalTech, Katriin believes that learning is a mindset driven by curiosity and a willingness to continuously develop.

For her, learning means genuine interest, experimenting, failing and trying again, and connecting theoretical knowledge to real life. But professional expertise is only part of the picture. Communication, collaboration, critical thinking and the courage to ask for help are equally important skills.

Especially in an age of artificial intelligence, Katriin believes we must be able to ask the right questions, add our own perspective and critically evaluate the answers we receive. 💬

💬 “Anything is possible at any age.” 💬

Enel Kirch, a fourth-year student of Marine Engineering and Small Craft Construction at Kuressaare College, is a mother of four and an experienced designer who made a conscious decision to deepen her knowledge of engineering.

For Enel, learning is not simply about acquiring knowledge; it is a way of staying alive.

“I feel alive when I can absorb new information. That’s what lifelong learning means to me—not just a slogan, but genuinely a part of life.”

Her motto is simple and practical: done is better than perfect.

“At first, you don’t chase perfection; you just move forward step by step. You write one sentence, then another, and at some point you look up and realise the work you set out to do is finished. You can worry about perfection later.”

And if you ever wonder whether it might be “too late” to study, Enel’s answer is clear:

“There’s someone in our group who turned 60. Age simply isn’t an issue.”

This recognition from students is especially meaningful to us because today’s students are tomorrow’s researchers, lecturers and specialists – the people who will shape the future of Estonian research and higher education. From LATVIA 🇱🇻 to TALTECH 🇪🇪

For Emīls, moving from Riga to Tallinn meant much more than earning a master's degree. Studying International Business in the Digital Era at TalTech School of Business and Governance gave him a fresh perspective on business, an international network and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.

During his two years at TalTech, Emīls balanced full-time work with evening studies, represented the university at an education fair back home in Latvia, and discovered that studying abroad doesn't have to mean moving far away from home.

Today, Tallinn feels like his second home, and he's looking forward to continuing his journey in one of Europe's leading startup hubs. 🚀

Natalia wanted to study International Law in English without moving too far from home—and TalTech turned out to be the perfect choice.

Over the past three years, she built an international network of friends, represented TalTech at international competitions, and discovered that studying abroad can be both exciting and reassuring when home is only a short ferry ride away.
