Summer is winding down and many of us are beginning to settle into a new semester… but before we get into the full swing of things, let’s reflect on a little moment from EKA Animation summer: our first BIP project “Animated Lives”!

In July we brought a group of students from our partnered schools to one of Estonia’s beautiful islands, Muhu, to do some nature-centric animation. We focused on found natural objects and made miniature films in groups. These films we will put on our Vimeo for everyone to see as well!

Outside of making the films, we also did some printmaking, visiting artists in Muhu, walking in nature, and enjoying the Estonian summer.

In May we had the opportunity to visit anifilmfestival for the first time!

Students were able to participate in several different screenings, master classes and reconnect with colleagues from other schools that they’ve met on previous Erasmus+ Short Term Mobilties.

(Some) of our highlights from Anifilm were the master classes, particularly the one given by Uri Kranot about his and Michelle’s discography and their virtual reality films, the video game showcase where we got to try some really super cool games, a panel discussing mental health safety practices in the animation industry lead by Louise Johansen from Sane Cinema and the screening of our alumna Thalia Domini’s film “ˌaɪs ˈkriːm, aɪ skriːm”.

Most interesting for us was seeing the different means of multi-media interactive uses of animation. Not only were there video games, but VR films as well. It really made it feel the possibilities of animation are endless.

Sel aastal pidasime BA ning MA lõpetajatega esmakordselt Q&A’d peale TASE Anima lõpufilmide linastust Kino Sõpruses

Tihtipeale jäävad peale filmi vaatamist kurnama mõningad põlevad küsimused. Filmi festivalidel on seetõttu tavaks linastuste järel pidada Q&A sessioone, kus küsitakse autoritelt nende töö kohta, mispärast otsustasime ka ise formaadi käiku panna ning seekord modereerisid meie küsimuste paneeli Lyza Jarvis ja Kaur Järve, mistõttu sai peetud rikkalik arutelu autoritega nende unikaalsetest lähenemistest filmide tegemisele. Ka publik sai küsimusi esitada!

Õnnesoovid autoritele kõige nende nähtud vaeva eest viimaste aastate jooksul, et need filmid valmiksid! Tulemused olid fenomenaalsed! Nüüd kui neil on ka veidi kogemust küsimustele vastamisega, on nad ehk valmis neid veel rohkem vastu võtma tulevastel festivalidel ümber maailma ;)

This year for the first time we hosted a Q&A for our BA and MA graduates, after our annual TASE Anima screening at Kino Sõprus Kino Sõprus

Sometimes after watching a film, your left with a burning question, and in film festivals it’s common practice to have Q&As with film authors after their screenings. We adopted the format and had Lyza Jarvis and Kaur Järve moderate the Q&A. From it stemmed a fruitful conversation about the author’s unique approaches to filmmaking. The audience had the chance to ask questions as well!

A big congratulations to the authors and for all their hard work these years during their studies. The results were phenomenal. And now they’ve had some practice answering questions, so that they’re ready for your questions at festivals around the world 😉

Ootame teid Eesti Kunstiakadeemia animatsiooni bakalaureuse ja magistrantide lõputööde linastusele TASE Anima ‘26, mis toimub 06. juunil kell 17.00–19.00 kinos Sõprus. Sissepääs on tasuta. Pärast seanss toimub vestlus filmi autoritega EKA-s Põhja pst 7.

Join us for TASE Anima ‘26, a screening of bachelor’s and master’s graduate films in animation of the Estonian Academy of Arts, which will take place on June 6 at 5 pm at the Sõprus cinema. The screening is free of charge.
Afterwards there will be a Q&A with the authors at EKA campus, Põhja pst 7.

The screening is apart of TASE ’26 tase.artun.ee
