It is the end of day 3 for us here in Strasbourg. The science symposium has been an absolute delight, we have seen the 10 finalists present in front of the whole cohort and managed to fit in a few tourist activities this afternoon, along with some free time to explore. Klim and all of the students did an excellent job presenting, and we are excited to find out the results tomorrow.

On Monday, 9 May, the school community celebrated Europe Day with workshops representing 20 different countries. It was a great pleasure to once again open the school's doors to members of the community and feel the school vibrate with energy, harmony, unity, and togetherness. We thank all the students, parents and teachers who helped organise all the activities, tastings, quizzes, imaginary sauna experience, crafts and dances. It was such a pleasure to have you all in the house. Our special thanks to Liis and Ian for the preparations and the general organisation. Well done!

Le lundi 9 mai, la communauté scolaire a célébré la Journée d'Europe avec des ateliers représentant 20 pays différents. Ce fut un grand plaisir d'ouvrir à nouveau les portes de l'école aux membres de la communauté et de sentir l'école vibrer d'énergie, d'harmonie, d'unité et de complicité. Nous remercions tous les élèves, parents et enseignants qui ont aidé à organiser toutes les activités, dégustations, quiz, expérience de sauna imaginaire, bricolages et danses. ES Science Symposium Day 2 feedback:
Dear Parents, Dear TES community,
We hope you are all doing well! Yesterday was an exciting day in Strasbourg. All of our students had the opportunity to experience the science symposium at its finest, meet with other students from all over Europe and discuss their projects. After an exciting morning, everyone spoke to the jury members and hoped to be entered into the finale. All of our students did very well, and we are very proud of all the dedication and effort they showed whilst explaining their research projects. We are especially pleased to announce that Klim Stepanko was named as one of the finalists and will be presenting today in front of a larger cohort of students and staff in the hope of winning first place for his category. We will keep you updated as best we can!

Dear Parents,
Just to let you know, in the course of the day, we arrived in Frankfurt with a few delays on the trains. Despite the delays, we managed to have an enjoyable experience on the public transport in delightful weather, enjoying some lunch in Offenburg, before being greeted in Strasbourg by members of the European School. We quickly dropped our bags off at our accommodation before heading to the opening ceremony, where many different individuals spoke about the event. We heard from the science inspector Max Wolff, Secretary-General Andreas Beckmann, and The Director of Strasbourg European School, Mr Tedde. In addition to these speeches, we also heard from Mr Sylvain Lodoit, who spoke about his experience working in the ESA deep space missions to get the students thinking and excited for the next few days.

A l'occasion de la Journée mondiale de la liberté de la presse, TES a animé le mardi 3 mai après-midi une table ronde pour apporter une lumière sur le métier de journaliste (études obligatoires, perspectives de carrière) et discuter des parallèles entre le contrôle de la presse avant et pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et la contrôle autoritaire des médias pendant le conflit actuel entre la Russie et l'Ukraine.
L'événement a été organisé avec le soutien de l'Institut français et de l'Ambassade de France en Estonie dans le cadre de la présidence française de l'Union européenne. Les panélistes programmés étaient Marielle Vitureau, Radio France Internationale, et Herman Kelomees, vérificateur des faits, journaliste et co-fondateur de Klikisäästja. Les excellentes modératrices du panel étaient nos élèves de S7, Malia et Kristin.
Nous remercions M Éric Lamouroux, Ambassadeur de France en Estonie pour sa présenace, les deux journalistes, l'Ambassade de France et l'Institut français pour avoir fourni l'occasion et nos S6 et S7 pour leur participation active au panel. Un grand merci à notre enseignant Kevin Kalomeni pour l'organisation locale!
Nous nous réjouissons de poursuivre la coopération avec les deux institutions.

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, TES organised a round table on Tuesday afternoon, May 3, to shed light on the profession of a journalist (compulsory studies, career prospects) and discuss the parallels between the control of the press before and during World War II and authoritarian control of the media during the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The event was organised with the support of the French Institute and the French Embassy in Estonia as part of the French Presidency of the European Union. Marielle Vitureau, Radio France Internationale, and Herman Kelomees, fact-checker, journalist, and co-founder of Klikisäästja, were the scheduled panellists. The excellent panel moderators were our S7 students, Malia and Kristin.
We thank Mr Éric Lamouroux, Ambassador of France to Estonia, for his presence, the two journalists, the French Embassy and the French Institute, for giving us the opportunity and our S6 and S7 for their active participation in the panel. Many thanks to our teacher Kevin Kalomeni for the local organisation!
We look forward to continued cooperation with both institutions.

Collagraph Printmaking 👩‍🎨

Last week S5 students made cardboard collage for relief printing plate, covered the plate with special paints for printing and transformed an image to artwork on paper using printing press.

Collagraph is a Greek origin word, "colla", means glue, and "graph", means to draw. A collagraph is essentially a collage of materials of various textures glued on to a printing plate, often a thin wood or cardboard.

Jeanna Ilves

Jeanna is a past resident of Tartu, she was born and raised in America, and she has had many travels following the completion of her undergraduate degree in psychology.

She has worked with children in schools and independently (assistant teacher, head teacher, English language teacher, reading and writing support, athletic coach) in America, Australia and Estonia.

Jeanna believes that the international schools provide a great family of foreigners and locals, and a wonderful learning environment.

She is thrilled to start teaching and spending time with children here in Tallinn!


Welcome our Science Teacher

Navid Alinejadian

Dr. Navid Alinejadian obtained his bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering-Casting, M.Sc. degree in Materials Engineering-Nanomaterials, and experienced post-M.Sc. research activities in Electrochemistry in 2019.

He finished his Ph.D. research in Materials Science at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), Estonia, and investigated the advanced functional high-temperature composites for sustainable, safe, and green electrochemical systems for future smart cities. Dr. Alinejadian has conceptualized and implemented a novel global research line in collaboration with Tallinn University of Technology and KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Furthermore, he is a science writer and reviewer in different peer-reviewed journals under Nature, Elsevier, Mary Ann Liebert Inc., and Springer publishers.

As a part of Dr. Alinejadian's hobbies, he is very interested in spending time with family in nature, curious about researching and studying state-of-the-art science and technologies, and enthusiastic about writing scientific texts and articles for peer-reviewed journals.

Last week we had the pleasure to receive a visit from the NATO Battlegroup Estonia.

The officers did a presentation on NATO, its activities, and its presence in Estonia. Then the group was split in half for a short questions and answers in both English and French.

The overall goal of their venues is to give an opportunity to the students to better understand topics discussed in History and Geography (the evolution of war, the defence of Europe and European Defence). Another goal was to reassure students regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

Prior to the discussion with the students, the officers met with the management and humanities teachers to discuss potential cooperation in the future. The cooperation process is being facilitated by the Ambassade de France en Estonie / Prantsuse Suursaatkond Eestis represented by Guillaume Raboutot and Mélie Cornet.


Dear TES Community,

🇺🇦Our Primary Assistant Ms. Mathilde is making a solidarity action with the association Refuge Estonia to help them raise money to keep helping in Ukraine.

🇺🇦Refuge Estonia is a non-profit organization that have been since the unfortunate beginning of the war in Ukraine helping on the front, by going there to bring supplies such as food, health product and cars. They still need help and I decided to join them to organize a draw/lotto action.

🇺🇦Ms. Mathilde created a crochet cardigan that would be the prize. Every donation you can make, the amount of your choice at Refuge Estonia from the 2 of October until the 16 of October is a chance for you to win this cardigan.

🇺🇦We will pick randomly on the 17 of October between all the donors who gave between these two dates and the winner would enjoy a unique piece of Ms. Mathilde's handmade work.

Welcome our Romanian Language Teacher

Ana Ichim

Ana is originally from Republic of Moldova where she did her BA studies in the field of Journalism, PR and Communication. She got her MA degree at the University of Tartu.

In between her studies and after them she was involved in youth projects and worked as a PR manager. Since 2020 she is working as an English language teacher at another school, where she also teaches Project Writing and she runs Erasmus+ projects.

Ana is very passionate about spending time with her family, travelling and discovering new places together. She loves reading and cooking Moldovan and Italian dishes, baking sweet and salty pastries and desserts.

Today we hosted visitors from the Kaiserslautern, Germany and their host from Rapla, Estonia.

Our school was the second stop for the delegation of headmasters who are visiting schools throughout Estonia to learn about the use of digital tools in school, how different schools work, how teachers teach, and how headmasters lead and manage schools.

We want to say our special thanks to the Secondary Teachers who hosted our visitors during their lessons.😊

S4A had a field trip to Pöllküll forest.

The following activities were done during the field trip:

🍀contributed and mixed ingredients to an active compost heap

🍀searched for and marked Maple trees for spring tapping

🍀collected wood from forest-attended fire for cooking

🍀prepared and served the rest of the group a warm meal of pumpkin soup

🍀some students practiced tractor driving skills

Today 44 countries all around the Europe is celebrating European Language Day!

To celebrate this day our school joined European Commission in co-operation with Vikerraadio of the Estonian Public Broadcasting (Eesti Rahvusringhääling – ERR) and organized an online language guessing game.

For this purpose, TES pupils are asked to read a passage in different languages from the book "Harry Potter". The audio files will be used for the language guessing game available for playing on Vikerraadio website www.vikerraadio.ee on 26 and 27 September 2022.

Dear TES Family,

It’s with honor, excitement and gratitude that I step into the role of Deputy Director for Nursery and Primary at the beginning of my 10th year at TES.

It’s been an inspiring journey during which I’ve enjoyed teaching Primary, coordinating P1-P2, leading the Support Team, kicking off the KiVa Programme and now introducing the CPS/Plan B approach to reducing challenging behavior.

Over the past five years as the Support Coordinator, I’ve worked closely with colleagues in Nursery and Primary, establishing trusting relationships based on friendship and mutual respect. It's this trust that I’m hoping to build on to make sure the Nursery-Primary team continues their excellent work in a supportive and collaborative atmosphere.

I’m a true believer of everyone doing their best when they’re feeling safe, accepted and competent. My motto comes from Maya Angelou: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.

It’s my goal to make everyone feel valued so they can do their best.

I’m looking forward to a year of learning and growing.

📖The main idea of this day was to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals and different communities.

Tuulika Sooväli-Rosin

Tuulika is rejoining us after 4 years of living in Belgium.
While living in Belgium she has learned and experienced so much about the rich history we have in common in Europe and in the world. As a teacher and mother of two she has experienced different school systems, and she is happy to share her knowledge with us.

As a born Tallinner Tuulika is always happy to introduce history of Tallinn and Estonia to people coming abroad. Do not hesitate to ask her, if you need advice about living in Estonia!

Delphine Truong

Delphine was born and lived for many years in France. She had chances to live in different countries such as, Spain, England, Belgium, Germany, and Finland.

She spent her 8 years in hospital as pediatrician. After that she continued her career in nursery and kindergarten.

Later she decided to become a sophrologist. She practiced this profession for 4 years before arriving in Estonia.

Delphine enjoys traveling, taking care of her children and giving French lessons.

Kristel Lensmann

Kristel was born in Estonia but she has spent most of her life in the United States. She studied Psychology at the University of Washington in the United States and Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language in Spain.

Kristel has lived and taught in the USA, Estonia, Spain and Mexico.

When she is not teaching, she enjoys traveling, food, reading good books and meeting new people.

Ekaterina Kazakova

Ekaterina has worked as a teacher of French and researcher at a university for seventeen years. She graduated in Medieval literature, and she is also interested in image of the city and cultural peculiarities. She has publications on these topics.

She has also worked at Alliance Française in Russia as a French teacher, DELF/DALF examiner and trainer of examiners.

Ekaterina loves discovering children’s worlds by communicating with them and exploring different countries by books, researches or traveling.

Rahel Korallus

Rahel is originally from Estonia. Since her childhood she moved to Germany and spent many years there. While she was living in Germany, the German language became her passion.

She has a BA in DaF/DaZ (German as a foreign/second language) from Leipzig University and she is currently writing her MA thesis in Tallinn University. Rahel has been a teacher since 2018.

Spending time and having fun with family and friends is her favorite thing to do, but she also like to have time for herself, reading and just generally enjoying silence. She likes abandoned houses, mysteries and listening to podcasts.
