We made it to Tartu! 🎉

Right in the heart of Estonia’s student capital, soaking in the energy of the Student Days Festival — and getting ready for the iconic Night Song Festival. There’s truly no better time to be here.

Following an initial visit to the Ukrainian Cultural Center, CIEE Tallinn students demonstrated initiative by returning regularly to volunteer their time weaving camouflage nets.

Their continued involvement reflects a sustained commitment to community engagement and highlights how students can take an active role in supporting local efforts while abroad.

We’re wrapping up our week!

Inspired by the global World Cleanup Day movement that started right here in Estonia, our group came together to local village to clean up parks and roads, making a meaningful impact.

To top it all off, we shared a cozy meal and great conversation, kindly hosted by our Center Director, Evelyn — the perfect ending to a week focused on giving back. 💙

CIEE Tallinn students participated in a Conversation Club session at American Spaces Narva alongside Fulbright ETA Catherine Sorokin, sharing presentations about their home states and engaging in open discussion with local participants.

Through experiences like this, students have the opportunity to exchange perspectives, strengthen communication skills, and build meaningful cross-cultural connections.

This week, we’re kicking off CIEE’s Community Impact Initiative Week! 🌍

To start, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible partners — TalTech American Space, the Ukrainian Culture Center, and the U.S. Embassy — for hosting our volunteers and creating meaningful opportunities to give back.

A special shoutout goes to our semester student Aspen, who has completed more than 30 hours of volunteer work this semester — an amazing achievement! 👏

We had the pleasure of coming together for a wonderful lunch filled with thoughtful conversations about past experiences, future collaborations, and everything in between.

To kick off community impact week, we are highlighting CIEE Tallinn Student, Aspen! Aspen volunteered with American Spaces in Narva speaking with local students about university life in the United States alongside Fulbright ETA Catherine Sorokin. He also led an American English Club session!

Across both experiences, he connected with the local community, shared his perspective, and engaged in meaningful cross-cultural exchange.

Volunteering abroad offers a unique opportunity to step outside the classroom while making a lasting impact.

The other day, we spent the evening at the Ukrainian Cultural Center making varenyky (Ukrainian Dumplings)!🥟

We had so much fun learning something new, getting a little messy, and sitting down to eat together! It was also a little farewell dinner for our intern Maddy, who we’re going to miss so much 💙

Last week, students attended a panel discussion as part of the United States and Estonia Evening of Collaboration, bringing together leaders across diplomacy, security, and international affairs.

Hosted in collaboration with the Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association, U.S. Embassy Estonia, American Councils for International Education Baltics, CIEE, and the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation, the event created space for meaningful conversation around global cooperation and emerging challenges.

In an intimate, discussion-based setting, students were able to engage directly with panelists—gaining insight into real-world policy, international partnerships, and the role of people-to-people exchange in shaping global relations.

Study abroad should be accessible to every student, regardless of major or academic requirements.

Through CIEE x ASU Online courses, students can continue progressing toward their degree while gaining international experience.
