With the end of the year 2022 approaching, the ECLIPS project also comes to an end. We wish to thank all childcare professionals and stakeholders who participated in the project or who helped disseminate the project results. The ECLIPS project was of great societal value and we thank everyone who has raised awareness and has contributed to the project activities in order to combat child abuse amongst children aged 0-3 years old.

September is a special time. It is the time when many children take their first steps in the child care facilities at the age of 1, 2 and 3. The adaptation period is not easy for anyone - neither the child, nor the parents, nor the babysitters, but if we take our time and let the familiarization process happen little by little, we will manage to create an atmosphere full of trust - so that every child is noticed.

It is a great opportunity to create a safe, accepting and sensitive environment for the child from these first steps, as well as an opportunity to build relationships with the children's parents.

As you know childcare specialists are an extremely valuable resource for early detection of possible family problems, abuse or neglect, so let’s be extra vigilant during the adaptation. The last step of the ECLIPS "on-field" work was training 120 childcare professionals from all the project partner Countries (Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Latvia) with respect to screening and referring child abuse, as well as implementing a trauma-sensitive approach within their daily practice.

After a one-day training, all participants were provided with the ECLIPS "Screening and Referral" and "Trauma-Informed Care" protocols [find them here: https://eclipsproject.eu/publication-list/], and a Virtual Reality tool to further train their screening and trauma-sensitive skills. Then, we collected feedback via focus groups.

Here are some quotes from our trainees:

- “With the support of the tools you have given us (…) I would perhaps feel capable at this moment of facing the evaluation of a critical situation”

- “The Screening tool helps you have an objective view of the situation and allowed us to understand that in a reaction that may seem trivial and disproportionate, discomfort may be hiding”

- [about a crisis with a child] “I managed to go back to what we said and to face the situation […] I think theTrauma-Informed Care tool has been very useful, I didn't feel alone thanks to this tool”.

We take advantage of this post to publicly thank all the childcare professionals who took part in the ECLIPS training to acquire greater knowledge and competence on such a tough topic.

📣📣📣 Although it's only mid-summer, we've already set a date when to invite you all together and tell about the results of the ECLIPS project!

We have planned a free international online conference on December 6, so we invite everyone who participated, who works with children in the first years of life, as well as makes decisions in the field of childcare, health care and family support, to reserve the date.

We will discuss the challenges, lessons learned and introduce you to the project deliveries that we’ve created:
• A screening and referral tool that allows childcare professionals to screen for signs of domestic violence more efficiently and refer more effectively.
• A protocol that provides skills to be able to provide trauma-sensitive care to young children exposed to domestic violence.
• A practical training with a virtual simulation (VR tool/game) for childcare professionals.

Delegates from all participating countries are going to take part: PRHU (Hungary), Unimore (Italy), Centrs Dardedze (Latvia) and our coordinating partner Resilient People expertise center of UCLL (Belgium).

It will be a powerful event after two years of work!

Yesterday, we presented our ECLIPS materials at the ISPCAN - Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention conference in Tallinn. Thanks for having us! Honoured to present our ECLIPS materials to support professionals in screening, referring and offering trauma-sensitive care for children aged 0-3 years old.
