APPLY FOR A SHORT-TERM SCIENTIFIC MISSION (STSM)

Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) are exchange visits aimed at supporting individual mobility, serving as a key tool to support SHINE COST Action (CA18236). They allow participating scientists to visit an institution or laboratory in another Participating COST Country. STSMs are aimed to promote research collaborations, to learn about new research techniques or to perform numerical modelling or experiments using instruments/tools and/or methodologies not available in or of interest for the home institution/laboratory of the Applicant. An STSM should specifically fit in the scientific objectives of the SHIINE COST Action (CA18236).

General instructions for application and eligibility criteria are reported below.

Please see instructions for applying to undertake a STSM

As a network part of our strength is diversity; national, cultural, and disciplinary. As a contribution to our COST objectives, we are seeking to use this diversity to produce and examine case studies of social change. We invite you to contribute to this initiative in a number of different ways: (1) produce a ‘social change account’; (2) engage in the discussion and analysis of accounts to co-develop case studies of social change; (3) collaborate to develop written outputs (for academic and general audiences).

What sort of accounts are we looking for?
In the broadest sense, we are interested in accounts that demonstrate the complexities and challenges of making social change happen. Or trying to create social change happen! Accounts should be triple or quadruple helix in their arrangement and should highlight a number of the following characteristics:
An urgent social need
A contested social situation
A novel approach to responding to the social situation
Application of design (or creative) approaches
A novel response as an outcome of multidisciplinary collaboration
Significant in their impact on the social situation.

Is there an example of a ‘social change account’?
Yes. There are three examples attached to this email. There is also a blank template for you to use.

What will we do with these social change accounts?
The purpose of collecting these accounts is three-fold. Firstly, as a collection, they will hold value in demonstrating different understandings, approaches, and outcomes of socially engaged collaboration that our network members are associated with. Secondly, the collection of accounts will provide base material for an analysis of unraveling and re-knitting social complexities. Finally, using a number of theoretical and critical lenses it is our intention to develop a small set of rich studies utilizing the accounts. We will be targeting a high-quality academic journal with these studies.

What is the timeline and what are the deadlines?
Deadline to express intention to contribute:
December 17th (email [email protected])

Deadline social change accounts:
January 13th (email [email protected])

Seminar (1) Exploring the accounts and their contexts:
February 24th (0930-1200 GMT) MS Teams

Seminar (2) Developing case study themes:
March 24th (0930-1200 GMT) MS Teams

Seminar (3) Exploring sustainment of change:
April 28th (0930-1200 GMT) MS Teams

WG1 Meeting - reviewing developed case studies and co-producing research output materials
May 29-30th Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem

Finalize written contributions - submitted for peer review:
July 28th

Details about each seminar will be sent to everyone who has expressed an interest in contributing 2 weeks in advance. This is to allow some preparation before seminars to maximize contribution and the value of our work together.

How do I apply to attend the WG meeting in Jerusalem?
There are 10 available spaces for the WG meeting in Jerusalem, which will be held on May 29th & 30th. The expectation is that those who attend are committed and active in contributing to the study described above.

Please email [email protected] by January 13th if you would like to attend the WG meeting.

44-2023 A Critical Perspective on Public Sector Innovation Labs – IFKAD 15/11/2022

A Critical Perspective on Public Sector Innovation Labs. New Directions in Managerial Practices, Technologies, Public policies and Organizations.

Description
Public Sector Innovation (PSI) Labs are gaining prominence within academic literature and public policy. However, because of the relative newness and conceptual ambiguity of this concept, the exact contribution of these labs to theory and practice is still unclear. In this track we will take a critical perspective on the concept by looking at the different aspects of these types of labs. We are interested to understand to what extent Innovation Labs or other management initiatives aiming to create “space and time” for innovation in public sector organizations can contribute to foster an improvement of organizational performance and value creation. We encourage to adopt an interdisciplinary view and to investigate, in particular, the human and technology-based perspectives.
Some of the topics we aim to discuss in this track are listed below.

knowledge management systems and Public Innovation Labs
Public sector innovation and digital transformation
Organizational resilience and innovation labs
Education and personal development for innovation in public sector
The track will be organized by members of the EU funded COST project Multi-Disciplinary Innovation for Social Change (SHIINE) and will contribute to the project and current research.

Keywords
Public Sector Innovation labs, EU policy, IT, Management, Technology

Our COST action member - Dr. Paulina Budrytė (Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania), shares her impressions about SHIINE Training School in Limerick, which was held this spring in Ireland.

'Training School in Limerick was an inspiring adventure – intensive, informative, and well organized. After endless zoom-meetings imposed by COVID-19 pandemics, it was inspiring to have live discussions and case visits to the places. Everybody learned much about Limerick and Ireland in just a few days. Yet, we learned even more about social innovations and the role of universities as the drivers of social innovations. We had lengthy debates about social enterprises, their purposes, and deliveries. However, most importantly, I believe this meeting will flourish in new partnerships and collaborations between youth researchers around Europe'.

WEBINAR: Social innovation in higher education institutions
Time: May 24, 2022 09:00 -11:00 AM CET
Please join us virtually: https://zoom.us/j/95598507781

We take the publication „Social Innovation in Higher Education – Landscape, Practices, and Future Opportunities” edited by Paunescu, Lepik and Spencer as an opportunity to discuss how higher education institutions (HEIs) can respond to societal challenges, support positive social change and influence the international public discourse on social innovation.
We will discuss how does the present higher education system, in different countries, promote social innovation and create social change and impact. In answering this question, factors driving success as well as obstacles are identified. Some suggestions are offered about how the present system can be improved both based on existing data and international literature on social innovation in higher education.
Program
09:00-09.10 Introduction to the webinar, Dr. Katri-Liis Lepik
09:10-09:30 Plenary discussion, Prof. Carmen Paunescu, Dr. Nick Spencer, Dr. Katri-Liis Lepik
09:30-10:40 Break out rooms:
1. How are universities influencing the dynamics between creativity and compromise in social innovation settings?
2. How can universities set their social innovation priorities taking into consideration their existing managerial, financial and social structure?
3. How to measure performance of education for social innovation in HEIs?

10:40-10:55 Conclusions from the discussions in the break out rooms
10:55-11:00 Closing of the webinar, Katri-Liis Lepik
