- Tallinna Tehnikaülikooli keeleõppe korraldamine;
- keeleõppe ning keelealane arendus- ja teadustegevus;
- teadmusteenuste, sh täiendõppeteenuste osutamine. The goal of instruction at the Centre for Language and Communication of TalTech is to grant learners (students, staff and members of the public) sufficient linguistic and communicative proficiency, both in spoken and written modes, that would enable them to follow developments in their professional field and operate effectively in an international environment. The Language Centre of Tallinn University of Technology was founded on 1 July 1992 by merging the Departments of Foreign Languages and the Estonian Language. Starting from 1 January 2017 it is called Centre for Language and Communication and is an administrative unit of the School of Business and Governance. The Centre for Language and Communication is responsible for language studies at TalTech, including further training of the university staff, for development and research activities in the fields of language and language learning and for providing language-related services. The Centre for Language and Communication has attempted to respond to the changes in educational and professional contexts, and the needs for both local and international students and academics to enhance their proficiency of foreign languages to meet those needs.

This week, Mattia Marchese and Kamil Błasiak from the TalTech Debate Club joined our Public Speaking classes for two sessions on debate and argumentation.

On the first day, they introduced us to the world of debate, shared examples of debate motions, and talked about the skills we can develop through debating. Students also learned the P-SEXI framework for building strong arguments and practised using it in a short exercise.

On the second day, we explored different types of logical fallacies and discussed why people use them in speeches and arguments. We finished with a debate following the British Parliamentary format, giving students a great opportunity to practise building arguments, responding to opposing views, and thinking on their feet.

Thank you, Mattia and Kamil, for two interesting and practical sessions!

It’s demonstration speech time in our Public Speaking class! 🎤

This time, Maarja shows us how to make a delicious pumpkin soup. 🎃🥣 A demonstration speech explains a process clearly while showing the audience how to do it.

Watch Maarja in action, and maybe even try her recipe at home! 👇

🎤 And we’re off!

Our Public Speaking students have given their first speeches of the semester. A chance to introduce themselves, get to know one another and take those first steps towards becoming more confident speakers.

Many more speeches to come! 👏

The new academic year has kicked off! 🎓✨

Our first day was an inspiring one for lecturers, with thought-provoking discussions on AI and the ways it is reshaping learning, teaching, communication and the world around us.
Plenty of big questions, fresh ideas and food for thought as we look ahead to the academic year 2026/2027.

Here’s to an inspiring year of learning, teaching and meaningful communication!

Eile käisime kolleegidega keelekeskuse igakevadisel väljasõidul. Sel korral sõitsime ringi Harju- ja Läänemaal, külastades erinevaid kultuuriloolisi paiku ja muuseume.

What does intercultural communication look like in practice?

Sometimes it's a conversation on a forest trail. Sometimes it's sharing stories while walking through a bog. Sometimes it's simply spending time together.

Our Intercultural Communication students recently explored Kakerdaja raba, experiencing Estonia's natural beauty while building friendships that cross borders and cultures.

🌿 Learning beyond the classroom.

We recently travelled to Oulu, Finland, to participate in the Communication Skills Workshop 2026, hosted by the University of Oulu's Centre for Languages and Communication, Lingua.

The international event brought together language and communication professionals from around the world to discuss teaching, learning, and communication in higher education in the age of AI.

We returned home inspired by engaging discussions, fresh ideas, and valuable connections. It was wonderful to meet colleagues from different countries, reconnect with old friends, and explore Oulu together.

A big thank you to the organisers for such a memorable and enriching experience!
