💫NEW IN THE SHOP!!💫 No School Manifesto - A Movement Of Creative Education • Edited by Ilse Ouwens, Fabiola Camuti, Betje Stevens • Published by Valiz • Graphic design by Marius Schwarz • 228 p • 20 EUR

The No School movement wants to open up the meaning of learning and fundamentally questions traditional education. Curiosity, experimentation, unrestricted thinking, making, and developing are basic elements of all forms of learning and living together. In the current system these values are often overshadowed by rules, legislation, bureaucracy, a unitary approach, and little attention for intrinsic inquisitiveness. No School aims to provide space for flexibility, “wild” thinking, cooperation, and more. This book explores the movement’s key concepts, accompanied by examples of students’ work. An essential reference and inspiration for anyone working in (creative) education.

📚NEW IN THE SHOP!!!📚 Unjustified Texts, Perspectives On Typography by Robin Kinross • Published by Editions B42 • 392 p • 27 EUR

Somewhere in the borderlands between academia and journalism, Robin Kinross has made a case for typography as a matter of fine detail and subtle judgement, whose products concern all of us, every day. This selection of his shorter writings from the past 25 years, including a number of previously unpublished essays, brings his major themes into focus: the unsung virtues of editorial and information design, the fate of modernism in the 20th century, the work of dissident and critical modernist designers, the contributions of émigré designers from Europe, and the virtues of a socially oriented design approach. The selection forms an unusual and powerful contribution to typography.

🧵NEW IN THE SHOP!!!🧵 /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ by Maarit Mustonen • self-published • Graphic Design by Arja Karhumaa • 96 p • Edition of 100 • 25 EUR

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ is composed of my great-grandmother’s sewing patterns that she for an unknown reason had stored underneath her floorboards. Great-grandmother used newspapers for the material of her sewing patterns. Now these odd-shaped clippings describe a world some 100 years ago. Many times the hand cutting the patterns for sleeves, pants etc. cut the stories in half – the situations are left open. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ includes a selection of texts and images from the sewing patterns. Each fragment is accompanied by an information of the body part it is associated with through sewing. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/’s dust jacket holds a collection of great-grandmother’s sewing patterns. The reader can use them for sewing clothes such as a shirt and jodhpurs.

📖NEW IN THE SHOP!!!📖 The Aesthetics Of Ambiguity - Understanding And Addressing Monoculture • Published by Valiz • 300 p • 23 EUR

In today’s globalised world, terms such as multiculturalism and pluralism assume a shared culture with shared values and convictions about openness, democracy, and equality. This in turn can be seen as a monoculture of views and attitudes. Yet being able to deal with differences, paradoxes, and ambiguities results from a learning process and does not just happen on its own. This book gives a platform to art and artists who dare to challenge the rules of our globalised, monocultural society, and explores their successes and failures.

🖇NEW IN THE SHOP!!!🖇 Hoarder Order by Thomas Kujpers • Published by Fw: Books • Design by Jeremy Jansen • Edition of 1000 • 560 p • 35 EUR

The work of Thomas Kuijpers always emerges from a current event, or series of current events, which he uses to investigate how the stories told about these events influence our daily lives. To do this, he collects all kinds of material: newspapers, posters, fragments of conversations, YouTube videos, and Twitter comments. From this act of collecting, new connections appear, as well as insights into how narratives about specific subjects are shaped. From this foundation of interconnected subjects and things arises work where the source material is often still visible. Like a sprawling index, ‘Hoarder Order’ is the result of 20 years of creating and (re-)ordering this collection.
