In February, 2014 the project took 36 young people, youth workers and educators from Estonia, Denmark, India and Nepal to Odisha state (formerly Orissa), India for an intense two and a half week training. We worked in cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural teams doing field work, cooperating with the local communities to identify their challenges and work together to develop solutions to make life better... but not just in India! The goal for each participant was to acquire tools and experience to act as multipliers and initiate their own change making projects back at home in the coming months after the training in India. Design in the context of Design_LAB is seen as a process to develop sustainable solutions to global and local challenges and its results can be products, but also systems, networks, services, projects, businesses, social initiatives etc. Therefore DesignLAB Orissa is not aimed at designers alone, but people from different backgrounds (anthropology, social sciences, business, education, people with creative and manual skills etc) who are curious about the world and believe in the impact we can have when we work together for a meaningful change. Project partners are:
Continuous Action (lead partner, Estonia)
INDEX: Design To Improve Life (Denmark)
Bakul Foundation (India)
CHILDREN-Nepal (Nepal)
The project is co-funded by the European Comission from Action 3.2. Youth in the World of the Youth in Action programme and Estonian Development Cooperation Programme and takes place from October 2013 to September 2014. More info: http://www.continuousaction.ee/?module=news&id=245 and designlab.ee
