Querides QPers, after two years of our Fifth Q***ring Paradigms (QP5) “Trastocando Paradigmas de la Modernidad” International Conference that encountered the Andes in Quito, our book is out! Este libro “Q***ring Narratives of Modernity”/”Trastocando Narrativas de la Modernidad” se asienta sobre este espacio Andino global cuestionando cómo/dónde se produce el conocimiento: What are we saying? How we are saying? Through which voices? This book engages various idioms in one collective interrogation. It also means to validate so-called ‘non-scientific’ forms of knowing, including art and subjective experiences. It requires the creation of new circuits through which knowledge can circulate, as well as unsafe zones of dialogue and exchange. Justamente, Part 1 asks the question of why theorize/debate “cuir” modernities through the intricate and careful analysis of Nikita Dhawan on Homonationalism and State-Phobia, and Sonia Correa's charting of the “Orientalized other” through a “Latin American” lens. Queridxs QPers: thanks to Peter Lang our book will be released on or around mid-November! Manuela Picq and I, together with each one of our authors are thrilled to share these news with you all. This book stems from QP5 conference in Quito where many of you presented your perspectives using complementary methodologies uncommon in academia. The event offered a diverse mix of activists, academics, artists, and people who fulfill several of these roles. Methodologically, QP5 sought to put upside down canonical/non-canonical sources, reversing traditional hierarchies between science and art, academia and activism. Theoretical debates blended with ephemeral media, performances brought hundreds of panels into movement and a q***r film festival took political debates into art form. QP5 debates took many idioms including photography from South Africa, video installations from Colombia, and panel presentations in Spanglish. There were extraordinary discussions brought to QP5 which would take much more than one book to compile. This book presents our discriminatory sample of much larger debates which we hope will continue to inspire QPs and all others as it q***rs conventional methodologies in the production of knowledge by intertwining theory, activism and art in a plurality of forms. It presents q***r texts and images as powerful sites from where to discuss the pitfalls of western modernity and how to creatively deal with them. The authors in this volume are engaged with multiple forms of activism across various geographical locations, including through political theory from/at Europe (Nikita Dhawan), African art, (Zanele Muholi), or legal advocacy in Latin America (Elizabeth Vasquez).
