¡Hola, amigos! 🌎I just uploaded Chapter 19 of our Spanish lesson series — a week late (summer vacation!), but packed with good stuff.
🎵 Conjugating CANTAR & OÍR in past tense — patterns that unlock dozens of verbs
🪘 Authentic Puerto Rican bomba music — drums, dance, and a melody to help you remember how to say, "I heard."
🗣️ Spin & Speak challenges so you build confidence speaking out loud
💬 Dialogue practice with real Ecuadorian context.
🙌🏽 And a cultural note I feel strongly about: using USTED in Latin America. If you're living in Ecuador, navigating paperwork, building relationships with neighbors, this one distinction matters.
This is real Spanish you can use. 💪
¡Adelante! 🐙

¡Hola! I'm so sorry to announce that there won't be a new lesson this Sunday. These are my last few days on the coast of Ecuador, soaking up every moment with Roberto and the family as well as visiting my favorite beaches within the Parque Nacional Machalilla. I'll be flying through Panama on Saturday and Sunday, so Chapter 19 will be ready for you by Tuesday morning.
Thank you for your patience and for being part of this journey with me.
Keep studying our text, Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish. There's another checkpoint quiz after Chapter 20, so be sure you can conjugate our verbs in the past tense at the speed of "the blink of an eye," and review our cognate patterns. Listen to our Songs to Practice Spanish Playlist too!

Today's song comes from Argentina 🎵🇦🇷
Piero de Benedictis — known simply as Piero — wrote "Tomamos un café" in the late 1960s. And I'll bet most Spanish speakers have sung his most famous song, "Mi viejo," on Father's Day. In Chapter 17, we use his song to lock in the plural past tense: -AMOS (we) - because when you hear tomamos un café… hablamos del amor in a melody, your brain holds onto the grammar without trying.
¡Nos vemos! ☕
