GIHP4C Student Develops an App for Teaching Double Integrals

Under the supervision of Eng. Walter Verdugo Romero, student Paola Katherine Pintado Durán successfully defended her undergraduate thesis as the final academic requirement for obtaining her Systems Engineering degree from Universidad Politécnica Salesiana.

Her research project, entitled “Implementation of an Augmented Reality-Based Mobile Application for the Visualization of Double Integrals and Three-Dimensional Surfaces, Oriented Toward Calculus Learning among Students at Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Cuenca Campus,” focuses on the development of AR-Math, an augmented reality mobile application designed to support students’ understanding of double integrals and three-dimensional surfaces.

The application enables users to visualize and manipulate four mathematical surfaces in an interactive environment. A post-test administered to 20 students achieved 80% correct responses overall and 83.33% accuracy in 3D visualization. Perceived usefulness and ease of use, evaluated among 22 students, reached a mean score of 65.15 points. The results indicate favorable performance; however, in the absence of a pre-test measurement, the outcomes cannot be attributed exclusively to the use of AR-Math.

GIHP4C proudly congratulates Paola Katherine Pintado Durán on this outstanding academic achievement and wishes her continued success in her professional career. We also recognize the dedication, perseverance, and innovation demonstrated throughout the development of this project, which contributes to strengthening calculus learning through augmented reality and interactive digital tools.

“Educational innovation transforms abstract concepts into experiences that enable students to visualize, understand, and learn.”
