In Puebla it is said that the manager of the Hotel Crespo, Danny Negrete, created the drink for his girlfriend. Since she loved salt, he decided to frost a glass and combine the magical ingredients lemon juice, tequila, and triple sec. Then, what according to legend was the first daisy was born.
There are other legends that cause even more doubt of its origin. For example, in Mexico City, during a July 4 party, a customer at Tommy’s Place ordered a magnolia. However, she decided to add some triple sec and her favorite tequila. Therefore, it is not known whether it was an origin of the daisy or a result of chance.
Another story happened in Acapulco. Here it is speculated that it was a story created with the intention of publicizing the Cointreau company. Margarita Sames is said to have hosted a party at which one of the main guests was Nicky Hilton, the heir to the Hilton hotels. So, with the intention of lightening the heat, he experimented with tequila and tirple sec until he created the Margarita. It is worth mentioning that the veracity of this fact is still disputed, since it was only published in a magazine of the advertising agency that represented Cointreau.
Finally, legend has it that in Beverly Hills, the Tail O’the C**k restaurant ordered large quantities of Tequila from a local distributor. Upon investigation, she found that the owner of this restaurant was a close friend of Danny Herrera and that the Margarita was one of the most acclaimed drinks in his restaurant.
