Never wanted to return.” -Stephen Winters During those years, Stephen traveled as well as served in the military. And through all his travels and experiences, it became clear Ireland was where he wanted to be 🇮🇪 Stephen always considered cutting hair a hobby; something he started as a young teenager. He jokes his dad was definitely the recipient of many bad haircuts! Later, he cut hair on his travels and also in the military. It wasn’t until he was back in Dublin having a haircut with 4th generation barber Sam Donnelly who suggested he seriously consider a barbering career💈 Five to six years were spent planning, visiting barbershops and observing before Stephen opened Tom Winters Barbers, named after his dad, in 2017. The shop took Stephen a year to complete the buildout and included laying salvaged wood flooring from an old convent and reclaimed bricks from an old industrial chimney in Belfast. Both blend well and give the shop that rich texture and depth that only old materials can. Along with the handpicked antiques, the space has a warm and cozy atmosphere. Stephen wants his shop to be a place for men to come and just be themselves. He feels “men need an environment where they can just openly speak,” and he believes “the barbershop is the best therapy a man can get.” What he loves the most about barbering is seeing that return customer and watching them walk back in the door - "that says everything!" ❤️
