Remembering Graham William McAvoy, Algiers, (1949 - 2026).

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Graham McAvoy, founder of Alligan UK, Alligan Algérie, the British Institute Algiers (2013 to date), and the British School Algiers (2020 to date), who passed away in London on May 3rd, 2026.

Graham was an extraordinary individual whose vision, generosity, and unwavering dedication shaped not only these institutions, but also the lives of countless students, teachers, families, and colleagues across Algeria and beyond. Through his leadership, he built communities founded on empathy, respect, educational excellence, and genuine care for others.

His legacy will continue to live on through the British Insititue Algiers and the British School Algiers, as well as the many people and institutions he inspired. During this difficult time, we join together in remembering the lasting impact he had on our community and all those he met across the world.

We would also like to reassure our students, parents, partners, and wider community that both the British School Algiers and the British Institute Algiers will continue to operate as normal. Our commitment to Graham’s vision and values remains unchanged, and we will continue working to honour his life’s work and carry forward the legacy he created.

Graham will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
