I have reflected many times on the miracle of the coming forth of The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Today we commemorate the 200th anniversary of the angel Moroni’s first visit to the Prophet Joseph Smith. What a remarkable visitation this was! Moroni was a messenger sent from God to teach Joseph Smith about the work that God had for him to do. Moroni became one of Joseph’s major tutors.

On his first visit, Moroni told Joseph Smith that “there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent. … the fulness of the everlasting gospel was contained in it, as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants.”

Joseph Smith translated this ancient record “by the gift and power of God.” This record is known today as the Book of Mormon.

I cherish the Book of Mormon and the opportunity to study its teachings. It is a thrill to invite visiting dignitaries to learn of its profound teachings of Jesus Christ.

The true value of the Book of Mormon can be summed up in the words of a man I taught many years ago in Accra, Ghana.

This man was a serious student of the Bible and one who loved the Lord. I explained to him that after the Savior’s Crucifixion and Resurrection He came to the people of ancient America to whom He taught His gospel.

Together, he and I read the Savior’s sermon to the people of the Americas. I then presented a copy of the Book of Mormon to him, to which he said:

“You could have given me diamonds or rubies, but nothing is more precious to me than this additional knowledge about the Lord Jesus Christ.”

On this 200-year anniversary, I ask each of us to consider: What is this book worth to you? If you were offered diamonds and rubies or the Book of Mormon, which would you choose?

I testify that the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God. It contains the answers to life’s most compelling questions. Its truths have the power to inspire, comfort, restore, strengthen, console, and cheer our souls.

It is my hope that each of us will see this book, today and always, as it really is: more precious than all the riches in the world.

On this Easter Sunday, my thoughts have lingered on one of the last moments of the Savior’s mortal ministry. As He was being crucified on Calvary’s cross, the Redeemer of all mankind uttered these timeless words:

“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).

How was it possible in His time of unfathomable agony for Jesus Christ to ask His Father to forgive His tormentors?

And yet, on the cross, Jesus did exactly that. He practiced what He had preached. He taught us to love our enemies, to do good to those who hate us, and even to pray for those who despitefully use us.

Every Easter, we rejoice in the Resurrection of the Savior Jesus Christ, the epitome of forgiveness. My dear friends, I invite you to prayerfully consider if there is someone whom you should forgive or someone from whom you should seek forgiveness.

Will you free yourself from hard feelings you may be harboring? I promise that as you forgive or seek forgiveness, the Savior will relieve you of anger, resentment, and pain. The Prince of Peace will bring you peace.

Jesus Christ is risen! He loves you! And , you can experience the joy and miracle of forgiveness.

Since last , difficulties in the world have continued. The global pandemic still affects our lives. And now, the world has been rocked by a conflict that is raining terror on millions of innocent men, women, and children. Prophets have foreseen our day when there would be wars and rumors of wars, and when the whole earth would be in commotion.

Brothers and sisters, the gospel of Jesus Christ has never been needed more than it is today. Conflict violates everything the Savior stood for and taught.

I love the Lord Jesus Christ and testify that His gospel is the only enduring solution for peace. His gospel is a gospel of peace.

His gospel is the only answer when many in the world are stunned with fear. We have the sacred responsibility to share the power and peace of Jesus Christ with all who will listen and who will let God prevail in their lives.

The spiritual darkness in the world makes the light of Jesus Christ needed more than ever. Everyone deserves the chance to know about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Every person deserves to know where they can find the hope and peace that “[passes] all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).
