Lesson I. In French there are three groups of verbs; (1) er verbs, (2) ir verbs, (3) re verbs. Verbs are called by the way that they end in the infinitive. The infinitive of a verb is the form of a verb in its natural or raw form. Compare this to raw materials before they are processed and refined in the factory. Or better yet a dasheen/yam before it is cooked. examples. jouer - to play, finir - to finish, perdre - to lose.
