SEN Support – Every Child Deserves to Learn
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, participate, and succeed.
Through the OECS PEARL Special Education Needs (SEN) initiative, schools across the region are strengthening support systems to better serve children with disabilities and learning differences, ensuring they receive the understanding, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive.
Inclusion begins with awareness, compassion, and collaboration. Together, we can ensure that no child is left behind and that every learner is given a fair chance to reach their full potential.

Reading Tip for Parents & Guardians
Reading together every day is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to support your child’s learning journey. Just 10 minutes of shared reading can strengthen vocabulary, build confidence, improve fluency, and create meaningful bonding moments.
Whether it’s a favourite bedtime story or a book filled with Caribbean adventures, making reading enjoyable helps children develop a lifelong love for learning.

Introducing “The Academic Check-Up”
Between 18 and 29 May, students across the region participated in national diagnostic tests integrating the OECS Early Reading Assessment (OERA) and Early Mathematics Assessment (OEMA) frameworks.
An accompanying OECS PEARL regional survey has revealed important insights, including concerns and anxiety expressed by some students, parents, and teachers around diagnostic testing. These findings highlight the need for continued awareness and a positive shift in how we understand and approach assessment.
In response, we are pleased to introduce **“The Academic Check-Up”**—an initiative aimed at reframing diagnostic assessments as a normal and supportive part of the learning journey, just like a routine health check-up.
This approach encourages a healthier, more positive understanding of assessment, helping students, parents, and educators see it as a tool for growth, early support, and improved learning outcomes.
Join us in embracing this transition toward a more supportive and informed approach to education assessment across the OECS.
