Why do green skills matter for Dominica?
Because the storms are getting stronger, and the buildings have to hold up. Because the country is moving toward renewable energy, and someone has to install and maintain those systems. Because more of our services are moving online, and that data has to be protected.
All of those need a trained person standing behind them. Right now Dominica does not have enough of them.
That is what the Green Skills Training Programme is for. Eighty-five Dominicans will be training and certifying in solar and thermal energy, HVAC, land surveying and cost estimation, construction administration, motorbike mechanics, cyber security and data entry. Youth, women and tradespeople who have been doing the work for years without the certificate to prove it.
This project is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.
