International Federation for Housing and Planning

International Federation for Housing and Planning International Federation of Housing and Planning (IFHP) It is in touch with the latest developments and general policy trends.

IFHP seeks to further the gradual evolution of the profession itself and to help provide solutions for specific problems. IFHP provokes discussions between experts, politicians and interest groups while there is still time, i.e. before final decisions have to be made in order to solve certain problems. The Federation believes that comparison is a valuable tool for learning. Comparison of similar i

ssues in different geographical, economic or cultural contexts may cast a totally new light on the approach to a particular problem. At the present time, the whole world shares major common problems: climate change, the energy shift, economic globalisation and increased competition between cities, retaining livability under rapid urbanisation, demographic change and migration, efficient but democratic governance in a dynamic world. The planning and housing professions can potentially make a far-reaching contribution to facing these challenges. So IFHP does not just facilitate the exchange of information and networking as a goal in itself, but we do this because it is a tool to help professionals in housing and planning to learn from each other and to generate new ideas to find local solutions to these common global problems. IFHP: Into the Light

Dear Fans & Follows of IFHP

Spring Greetings anno 2023. This is a first peep from IFHP in a while. IFHP has been in a bit of hibernation of late, but now is softly reawakening and reemerging in new constellations addressing topics tried, true and new.

IFHP continues to carry a torch on matters of housing and planning, with particular focus on affordable housing and socially sustainable cities. IFHP is engaging in new dialogs on cities in relation to water and climate resiliency, along with urban health and well-being. In effect back to basics: water and shelter at the very crux of cities and settlement.

IFHP welcomes you to reengage with us. Your patience is greatly appreciated as IFHP gets going again. Yes, IFHP has been napping of late – but else can one expect of a body that is nearly 110 years old.

Thank you for your interest and moral support.
IFHP to soon return with more and opportunities to interact.

Newly launched planning tool ‘Her City’ - including the women and girls’ perspective and wishes in urban development.

If we let citizens traditionally without a voice be the experts, our cities and communities will become more inclusive, equal and sustainable.

By Claudio Acioly Jr. I was asked by IFHP to endorse and highlight five references on housing that I would strongly recommend, including some of my own work. This is a colossal task and obviously challenging because you are certainly bound to make injustice to very good work done by housi

How can citizens have their say in the decision making of urban public spaces?

‘Action lab’ in Catalonia exploring how to get citizens involved in creating safe and inclusive cities. Carme Gual Via shares the outcomes of the Action Lab aiming at a framework on how to get citizens to drive change in their communities…

It has been a major question for urban designers, urban strategists, politicians how to overcome the difficulties to implement projects with the active intervention of the citizens. September 10-11, 2020 I attended an Action lab for citizens to develop a framework of indicators for Safe and Inclu
