The Center for Cold War Studies at the University of Southern Denmark was established in 2006. Since then, it has been an active player both in Denmark and abroad. It has established an international network with the aim of promoting cooperation, especially amongst European researchers in the field. Since 2011, the Center for Cold War Studies has been the co-organizers of the annual international
conference “Need to Know”. The Center is a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment. It includes Slavonic specialist, experts on German, British, American history, on Middle Eastern Studies, and of course also on Danish contemporary history. Since its’ establishment, the Center hosted guest researchers from Germany, Poland, Finland, and Israel. The Head of the Center is Associate Professor Thomas Wegener Friis. He is aided by an international advisory board constituted of leading scholars from Europe, the United States, and Russa:
