We are delighted to invite you to an upcoming DIAS lecture by Professor Søren Brunak, a pioneer in bioinformatics and health data science.
📅 Date: Wednesday, 1 October 2025
🕚 Time: 11:15–12:15
📍 Venue: DIAS Auditorium (V24-501a-0), OD ADM
Talk Title:
Disease Trajectories – the Future of Humans as Model Organisms
Abstract:
As populations age, disease patterns are becoming increasingly complex, with many patients experiencing multiple illnesses over the course of their lives. At the same time, vast amounts of health data are accumulating through electronic patient records, biobanks, and multi-omics cohort studies. This data richness has given rise to the concept of using humans themselves as model organisms and digital twins.
In this lecture, Søren Brunak will discuss approaches to analyzing health data at scale from millions of patients, and how machine learning methods can be applied to better understand complex disease etiologies and advance the precision medicine agenda.
About Søren Brunak:
Since the mid-1980s, Professor Brunak has been a leading figure in bioinformatics and health data science. He is widely recognized for integrating scientific disciplines in novel ways, including his pioneering work on disease trajectories to model multimorbidity and disease progression patterns across the life course. His early application of artificial neural networks in bioinformatics and health data science has influenced thousands of researchers worldwide.
We warmly invite you to join us for this exciting lecture.
Best regards,
Vijay

The Green Solutions Centre at the University of Copenhagen is pleased to offer two interdisciplinary PhD courses this November, open to all PhD students across Danish universities. These courses provide a unique opportunity to develop advanced interdisciplinary research skills and to connect with fellow students from diverse academic backgrounds and universities.
The courses are free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School).
The two PhD courses are:
1. “Health responsible green transition – exploring interdisciplinary problems and solutions” - 20-21 November 2025
The aim of the course is to contribute to the understanding of the nexus between health, climate, and environment, and to present interdisciplinary-inspired solutions for integrating global health, one health, and health promotion initiatives in ways that ensure just green transitions.
You can read more about the course and register here: https://greensolutions.ku.dk/dansk/arrangementer/phd-course-health-responsible-green-transition---exploring-interdisciplinary-problems-and-solutions/
2. Transition of food systems in the global south – An interdisciplinary approach to protein dense food” - 11-14 November 2025
In this course, we cover the core issues related to proteins in the food system. We cover production, processing and consumption for achieving sustainable and climate-friendly food systems in the Global South using knowledge and cutting-edge research findings from several academic disciplines.

PhD course: Protein-rich food systems in the Global South
Sustainable food systems are essential for reducing environmental footprint and ensuring food security globally, but they are limited by availability of protein whose production, processing and consumption involve multiple sustainability dimensions.
