Stort tillykke til Sofie Marie Koksbang. Helt sikkert en fortjent nominering.

We are pleased to introduce one of our researchers in Physics: Manuel Meyer

Eighty-five percent of the universe exists in the form of dark matter, and nobody knows what it is. In his research, Manuel Meyer searches for axion and axion-like-particle dark matter in high-energy astrophysical observations and in the laboratory. These particles are crucial because they may contribute to describing 'dark matter.'

Despite not always being sure what he wanted to study, his fascination with Star Trek, the stars, and the universe led Manuel to pursue physics. In 2010 he finished his master’s degree in Hamburg. Intrigued by fundamental questions about the universe, Manuel was drawn towards particle physics.

Advice: When choosing a university, explore programs aligning with your interests, such as fundamental science at SDU. Investigate the research landscape for a solid start. Balancing location satisfaction is crucial for overall well-being. Despite occasional disliked classes, focus on the initial motivation and prioritize joy-inducing courses for a fulfilling academic journey. Regularly revisit your motivations to stay motivated.

In his research group, supported by an ERC starting grant, there's a mix of bachelor's and master's students. In addition, Manuel has post-docs and PhD students who help in supervising students. It creates a shared learning experience where students become part of an international team of researchers. At the same time, Manuel gains fresh perspectives and tackles questions he might not have thought about before. Additionally, companies value data analytics skills, and students in the group can enhance their abilities here. But, most importantly, Manuel hopes everyone in the group enjoys the process.

https://www.sdu.dk/da/uddannelse/moedsdu/nat-fysik-camp

Stort tillykke!
