Congratulations to Mads Ortving Lindholmer on being named in the prestigious “Talent100” list published annually by Berlingske.
Mads is a postdoctoral researcher specialising in the history of the Roman Empire and is currently writing a new book about Julius Caesar.

Congratulations to Rasmus Glenthøj, who has received a Carlsberg Foundation grant for his project The Scandinavian Moment: Digitizing Scandinavian Archives of the Crimean War (1852-1859).
This project will be carried out at SDU in collaboration with Katrine Baunvig and the Center for Digital Textual Heritage at Aarhus University.
2025 has been a remarkably good year for members of the Empires, States, and Imperialism research group! Big thanks to the research foundations for supporting our work.

Congratulations to Thomas Heebøll-Holm and the team on receiving a DFF grant to establish an international research network on “The Valdemarian Empire 1168-1375”.
The network brings together scholars from Denmark, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden, and Estonia – countries once part of the Valdemarian Empire.
We look forward to following the project’s progress.

A warm congratulations to Professor Jesper Majbom Madsen, who has been awarded Queen Margrethe’s Roman Prize 2025 for his remarkable ability to “connect the study of ancient Rome with contemporary issues.”
The prize was presented by Queen Margrethe herself at the Danish Institute in Rome.
The following day, Professor Madsen had the great honour of guiding Her Majesty through the Ara Pacis Museum and the Mausoleum of Emperor Augustus.
Reflecting on the experience, Professor Madsen said:
“It was incredible experience receiving the award and meeting the Queen.”
Queen Margrethe’s Roman Prize was established by the Carlsberg Foundation in 2015.
Professor Jesper Majbom Madsen is Professor of Ancient History and head of the research group “Empires, States and Imperialism” at SDU.
